Notification light

Hey forum friends,

Just got my Galaxy Note 10 Plus yesterday and after many failed attempts using the stock system and third party apps, cannot get edge lighting notifications to work at all. I've upgraded from the Note 8....but I'm really going to miss that LED notification on all my previous Note phones if I can't get something comparable happening on the 10.

Any ideas out there?

Hi @04stangman!
Good Lord I hope not. Do you mean the phone flashes the flashlight when you get a message?
I hate that. It's to distracting. Although I guess that's what it's supposed to do...
I don't think so. I don't like that either.

My S7 Edge which I've just transferred from, has an LED on the front try hard would light up in different colours.

One thing I liked about this is you could tell when the phone was charging as it was red, and fully charged charged when green

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have turned on and configured my edge lighting functions and notification settings on all of my apps in every conceivable way. Nothing I've tried enables this feature to actually work. A review of this topic in many places reveals a ton of frustration being expressed by S 10 and S 10 + users who have long reported the same issue. There are apps on Google Play that exist just to 'fix' the Samsung edge lighting problems. But I hadn't heard yet what anyone was experiencing with the Note 10's yet, so was just curious. But if you and others are finding it functional, maybe I just got a bad device and need to look at a replacement. (?)

Thanks again for your input!

im having zero issues with edge lighting on the note 10+. ive only seen it interact with a few apps as they notify, but its been fine.

perhaps something to differentiate the people who don't have issues with people who do, could be the fact that some may have backed up from an old note 9 whilst others (like myself) did a fresh install.

also there was an update right out of the box, so make sure you received that.

im also on unlocked firmware. if you want to list an app or two that you are having issues with, i and/or others can test that app on our devices to see if there is any consistency...

Thanks for that info., especially since you have the same phone.

So my edge lighting has indeed begun to trigger today with at least one app, Mood messenger. It flashes with both the style and color I set up for this app. and with the screen off. As others have pointed out, it would be nice if it kept flashing until the notification was taken care of, but one flash is all you get. Again, that's one thing I miss about the LED notifications...worked flawlessly in different colors for specific apps with subtle blinking until the message was retrieved. So far the edge lighting doesn't trigger for my emails, but I'm aware that what apps it will work with will be hit and miss. Otherwise, if someone would like to try out my email client, Blue Mail, and see if you can get it to edge light, I'd be interested in your results.

Thanks again for the help as we all get acquainted with our new Note 10 's!

I know what you mean. It would be nice to have that single LED light back. Tried the edge lighting for notifications with phone on silent through work meetings today and, even when it functioned, it was barely noticeable. It's actually very apparent when you have the screen on and phone in use. As others have said, though, this kind of defeats the purpose as the real need is to be notified when the screen is off with phone on silent and set aside. And, yes, maybe I'm being overly anxious, but the mass permissions required of the third party apps make me hesitant to install.

Well I've not used these apps because I don't need them (my phone is old enough that it has a notification light;)), so don't know what permissions they ask for. But if they are supposed to notify you of a wide range of events and conditions they probably will need a lot of permissions.

Personally I get more fed up with certain Google apps moaning because I've not given them permissions that they don't need in order to work (as evidenced by the fact that they work fine with them denied). That hardly sets a good example.

What's crackin my fellow Android peeps? Am I missing something or is there notification light on the note10+?
There are many but needs to be re-ported again to the center punch hole. Those same apps works fine on the s 10 line.

I usually use holey light, but is getting reported to work with the Note. For now using glimpse notification that triggers any and all apps.
edited.

I was also fed up with it when i came to knew that LED flash has been removed from the note 10+. recently i got it and its annoying that it was removed. I also checked it with edge lighting but it gives u once only. Its flashes and thats it. So i just found an alternative way of it. As long as you keep always on display u can see your notifications there below the always on display. Thats what i got quite helpful. Samsung really needs to do something to bring it back in coming updates. was huge fan of it.
