Hey guys, I'm having a small issue with my data connection.. I usually turn off my data when I'm not using it because I don't have wifi at home. But ever since this morning when I turn on my data it won't turn on.. the phone tells me the data is connect but nothing comes up on the status bar and no internet works.. any ideas??

Could you be connected to a Wifi network that isn't connected to the internet. That happened to me with a previous system. My LAN was up and running but no internet connection. My phone showed connected but I couldn't access the internet.

No there's no wifi anywhere and it's turned off the phone just won't connect to the data service when I turned it back on

Sorry, I misunderstood. Could you have maxed out your data usage according to your phone. It makes very rough approximations and it might say you're maxed when you're not even close.

No the data plan is fine the bill is paid everything is working on that end... I know to check all that stuff before consulting here... It seems to be ok in safe mode... So maybe an app I installed? But I cleared everything uninstalled reinstalled and updated every app and it's still doing it, how can I pin point which app it could be? I have the following installed:

Facebook
Instagram
Twitter
Messenger
CIBC
Tangerine
Netflix
Xbox
Captial one
This forums app
Outlook
Kijiji
Letgo
Reebee
Fido app

I'm not 100% sure it's one of these however when I booted up in safe mode it deactivated and reactivated the data connection a few times and it seemed to work ok. However on normal start up if I turn it off once I can't get it back on... Anyone can think of anything related to the phone itself not my data, not my plan not my bill all of that stuff checks out and I had Fido reset my sim card already.

Did you try to reset your network settings? In Settings - General - Restart & reset - Network settings reset. Maybe?
Did you reinstall your apps one at a time and check your connection after each one?
Did your connection work after you uninstalled all your apps before you started to reinstall?

Yeah I tried the reset but I'm going to have to try the app reinstall one at a time again tomorrow dude to limited data I just tried a fresh reinstall of all of them I didn't have enough time left in my free data hour to do it today.. the weird thing is if I turn on the data and it doesn't work restarting the phone most of the time does the trick.. which is odd because all the apps are still installed but this only started happening today... I've had the same apps installed the whole time...

Did your phone get the August update?

I'm running Android 9.. is that what you mean? Also I just deleted the Letgo app and so far everything seems to be working again... It's weird though I just chose that app randomly and I cant see why it would be that one. It just an app to buy and sell stuff locally... Any thoughts?

Not an android update, but a security update. If you check your phone updates, it would show this:
Capture+_2019-08-23-15-18-15.png As far as Pergola being the culprit, who knows. Just be glad you found it. You may be able to reinstall it once it updates. Glad you found it!

Scratch that Letgo wasn't the problem it started again... I'll check out that update you're talking about and get back to you

OK, that was a real stretch as given that Safe Mode testing you did does indicate there's some kind of software issue. In your listing of apps, determining just which one might be the source of the problem is going to be something of a project.
You could try going into your Settings >> Apps menu and disable half of the apps in your list, restart your phone and see if your connectivity is OK again. If the first half doesn't make any difference, it's probably not any of those apps. Disable the other half of the listing and see if what happens. Hopefully the problem app is in one half of that list or the other. Then it's just a matter of whittling down the list to find the culprit.

Ok I'll try it that way then thanks 😊

I finally the steps to get to the software update when it says on the net or click on the security patch version to update it I don't have an update now option or a manually check for updates option either when I click on it it just automatically brings me to the open source Android website and there's no download avalibale in there either... And it still says that my version is from June 1st...
