Trouble Connecting to public WiFi sign-in page

Staying in hotels or connecting to public WiFi that requires visiting a sign-in page (rather than requiring a password to connect) on my Galaxy Tab A, chrome returns an error "not connected to internet" with some verbiage that it might be caused by the Wi-Fi requiring a sign-in. My Galaxy S7 connects without a problem in the same situation.

I realize that this may be due to the 4G connection on the phone, but want to be sure if that's the case, and to see if there is some way around this. (Other than using the phone as a hotpot for the tab, which is what I have resorted to so far.)

My windows 10 laptop also has no 4G, but finds the sign-in page eventually.

The Tab is running Android 5.1.1 while phone just upgraded to version 7 the other day, and was on 6.1 something before that.

The issue on your Tab is you need to get it connected to the hotel's WiFi network first, then use your browser to get Internet access through that sign-in page. Chrome is just a web browser, it cannot enable/disable online access it simply uses whatever is available. The actual connection process is done through a lower level (your tablet's operating system and corresponding WiFi or cellular hardware). Note that the two are completely different ways for wireless connectivity that rely on different ways to authenticate -- with WiFi you need to a user name/password, with 4G it's your cellular service account with your carrier so in this matter the two are not interacting or interfering with the other.

Anyway, on your Tab check its Settings >> WiFi and confirm it is actually connected to your hotel's WiFi network. It's probably an open network, with actual Internet access being restricted to only customers going through the sign-in page.

Thank you. What you say is correct, however, when I tap on the notification to sign into WiFi, it brings up the browser, which then gives me the error.

I get the same thing on my Windows laptop sometimes, but running the diagnostics usually solves it. I don't know how to get the tablet to take me to the sign-in page which appears to be a web page as far as I can tell.

Did you try going to CNN.com? Why don't emojis show up in the app? (I put the winking emoji at the end of my last post)
