First monthly update, Android 10

The October update is rolling out now.
Pleased to see that the list includes what sounds like a fix for the one issue that has bugged me, namely a memory leak (or something that behaves like one). For the first time in 2 years with this phone I've had to reboot every 1-2 weeks to restore performance. Hopefully this patch will put an end to that.

Just downloaded and sideloaded on my Pixel 3 because I'm impatient. So far so good.

Yeah, A-138323667 is the one I was referring to: I'd observed reduced multitasking performance after 7-10 days of use, and performance degradation over time spelled "memory leak" to me (was also there in dp6, but that was a beta so more forgiveable).

I've just rebooted after installation and gone into developer options and reset the accent colour (hopefully once the "Pixel Themes" app is released that will stick after a reboot). Curiously I've spotted one or two small extra places that seems to have an effect, such as the enter key on the lockscreen keypad, which were not previously themed, though there are still some that are missed (the button on the "check for updates" screen being an obvious one - that remains the "system default" colour).

But they've not fixed the most stupid Android 10 reversion: touching the fingerprint scanner, even swiping on it to lower the notification slide, does not cancel the screen timeout!

That was a particularly stupid feature when the phone first launched, but they corrected it about 2 months later. For some reason Android 10 reverted to the original behaviour. My suspicion is that it's connected to the Pixel 4 not having a fingerprint scanner, and so this not being on their radar any more.

I've got a Clear All option when I scroll all the way to the left. Is that just an issue with third-party launchers?

hi - yes think so - im on nova - but have tried other launchers too ... only one that seems to still work is pixel :/

But I have it still and I use Nova.

What navigation button setup do you use? I use the 2-button nav and it works fine, but if I switch to the 3 button navigation I lose the "clear all" button.

I never, and I mean never use that button myself, so wouldn't have noticed this if you hadn't mentioned it. I wonder how many people have reported it to Google (Google are probably focussed entirely on their launcher and their new navigation and likely aren't paying any attention to anything else).

...so do you always swipe close each app then after use? ... or just leave em running in the bg

A properly-written app won't be running in the background unless it has a task to finish (such as a download). Once it has finished its current task it should go into hibernation.

So I never close them. I just let the OS do its stuff: it will close them if it needs the memory, otherwise they remain loaded until I use them again (at which point they open immediately and where I left off). On the rare occasions I swipe an app away it's because I don't want it cluttering the recent apps list as I know I won't be going back to it, but it's rare that I bother even with that.

ah i see ... right - i just close em cause i find the switcher a bit of a pain if there are too many things open ... plus i dont want stuff like email and other secured apps being able to be viewed from switcher screen ... but that is just me being overly secure about things

.... i do like that swipe on the bar to switch apps feature ... ie you dont even have to open the switcher view
