no connection via USB

Trying to transfer pics to my PC. I've done it b4 w/no prob. I connect via USB to each. I would get message upon connection.
Now all I get is the standard beep telling me I'm charging but that is it???? No message on either device other than icon saying it is charging.
Cord is fine. Have another J7 phone that connects w/no prob with same USB cord & PC.

i would still try a different cable. also i would use google photos instead. i can take a picture on my phone and then it will either upload with a wifi connection or thru mobile connection depending on how you have it setup. but i can then hop on computer and when it is done uploading i can then access it on my computer. this is how all of my photos are saved. i never have to worry about losing my photos or worry about my sd card getting corrupted. plus you do not have to worry about transferring your photos when you get a new phone.

I have another cord to try. I have connected another J7 with same cord. Everything works normal on that phone.
As far as taking pics. I just shoot & thats it! I later down load pics from my Gallery to my PC via USB. No wiFi or anything else??
Don't know anything about Google Photos?? I've been perfectly happy doing it as I have for a long time.

check out google photos. it is amazing and i never ever have to hook my phone to the pc.....just saying. it should be on most phones. i never touch the phone's gallery. nor do i have to worry about backing it up.....it is all done automatically.

anyways if you want to keep as status quo then we need to find out what is going on. have you tried just rebooting the phone? or even clearing cache for the gallery? also make sure your samsung drivers are up to date.

a little note for you: I have never been able to send photos via the web to my PC. My J7 phone is on AT&T - her J7 is on Boost!
hers works fine xfer photos via web. Mine has never worked via web but I've always used USB & been very happy with that mode.
have you tried google photos via wifi? it is not sent thru the internet just over wifi. you just connect to your router, just sign in to your google acct and that's it!!!! it should start to sync and you are good to go.

I'm not a huge phone user. I use less that 1g data a month. I only make calls, text a little, take maybe a dozen pics a month, & only look something up 1-3x a week!
I'm a electrician, have several apps I use at work & thats about it. I'm 63yrs old & have had computers since early 90s Win 3.1
its all good, its just dealing with usb cables there is all sorts of things that can go wrong. wireless is simple, especially with google photos. once it is setup, there is nothing you need to do. you just take a photo or video and that is all you need to do. there is no hooking up with a cable or anything. it is literally the easiest way to manage your photos.

but i get it....old schools works. but it will always have issues as time goes by, especially on older phones like yours.

so the only thing i see that could be wrong would be two main issues:

1. it could be software.
  • there is a possibility that it could be on your pc's end with your drivers. they may be old and might need to be updated.
  • if it is your phone then maybe try putting the phone in safe mode and see if the issue still occurs. this prevents any 3rd party apps from running (they could be preventing the phone from communicating with your pc).
  • if that does not work then you might have to do a factory reset. just make sure your photos are saved onto your sd card (hopefully you have one) as this will delete them on the phone internally.
2. or it could be a hardware issue.
  • it could be a bad port. on my old note 8 my port was getting bad where i had to hold the cord a certain way in order for it hook up with my pc....even for charging.
  • if it is a hardware issue then you will either have to think about upgrading or if you have insurance, you can get it fixed or replaced ( i think most insurances give you a refurbished one as a replacement)
sorry those are the only things i can think of that will fix your issue without going the very easy to setup google photos route.
