Interesting. I kind of hate to send you away, but you might want to post to the dedicated Messages support community to see if the experts there might be better able to assist you:
https://support.google.com/messages/community

Please do report back if they're able to help!

I was able to fix the stuck issue with that support page, but now it says Carrier does not support chat. Is there a known Verizon issue with RCS?

Thx all for your replies, it is Verizon. They only supposed Galaxy at the moment on RCS.

I've had it since December on my Pixel 3 on Verizon, and that is using Verizon's RCS server.

Google's recent announcement is that they are bypassing the carriers and providing RCS directly (from Google's RCS server). It should work with any phone on any carrier as long as you're in the US and using Google's Messages app. Verizon doesn't get a say in it.

The "your carrier doesn't support this" message just indicates that your device hasn't yet been provisioned for access to Google's server - operative word being yet.

It should be available for you soon. Don't give up!
