Rumor: Sprint to release iPhone in September

We've been hearing rumors that the iPhone is headed to Verizon since just about when the original iPhone made its debut in 2007. What we haven't heard as often is that the iPhone would be headed to Sprint, but that's exactly what the latest rumor seems to be. MacRumors has received a couple of tips from sources affiliated with Sprint that have said that the iPhone will indeed be available on the No. 3 carrier later this year. One of those sources went on to say that the device would be available on Sprint around September, which is approximately when the iPhone has been rumored to be headed to Verizon, as well. While there's no way to tell if any of these rumors are true until we hear it directly from Steve Jobs, I'm sure that Sprint would love to have the iPhone, as their CFO Robert Brust has stated in the past. It may not be Verizon, but there would probably be quite a few people that would leave AT&T for Sprint and their considerably cheaper monthly plans. When September rolls around, we may finally see the iPhone available on several carriers, perhaps even all of the big four, which would definitely help Apple and the iPhone compete with Android.

Apple extended its exclusivity contract by 6 months into 2011. Close this topic (that doesn't belong here in the first place).

In defense of the OP, some would consider holding off on the Evo if the iPhone were to come to Sprint. Also, the exclusivety contract is debated every day on every blog. I think you're right but we could both be wrong.

Got a link? What I had seen was that the original contract was for 5 years of exclusivity, which would be 07-11. But even contracts like that have loopholes where one party can void it if certain conditions are met.

But I'd agree, probably not the right section for this.

Analyst: Apple extended AT&T’s iPhone contract until 2011 in exchange for cheap iPad 3G data plan|Edible Apple

It's technically "speculation," but everyone seems pretty sure of it.

iPhone's going to be with ATT through exclusive agreement end in '12 unless APL & ATT agree on another exclusing locking in the 4G in '12 allowing 3G versions until then. Can't imagine APL will not want anything other than an ATT/VZW bidding war for the next exclusive. ATT/VZW will have the $ to bid away.

Sprint's best play would be to stay out of exclusives, which almost assuredly will be what happens for any iPhone versions.

I would choose the Evo also.I just put the information up there. It would be a good thing for the Iphone to come to Sprint. It would keep Google and HTC on their toes with updates in hardware and software to our phones. If it wasn't for Apple,a company which I hate,we would still be getting the refresh of the Motorola Razr every year.
