Music/Audio app crashes every time I open another app

Previously I have been able to listen to my music/podcast while using my phone for various other things without interruption to the audio. Now any time I open a second app while audio is playing it crashes my audio instantly.
I've tried everything Google has to offer (clear cache, clear cache partition, battery saver exclusion of apps involved, etc.) to resolve this and no luck. It has become infuriating over the last few months as this is a very important function to me. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
PS- My audio crashed when I opened this app.

Is this happening with the default media player app or are you using one that you installed, and which one is it?

You referred to doing things like clearing caches but did you also try using 'Clear data' instead? That wipes the app's configuration and settings, along with the app's cache. If the problem is due to a corrupted config file that's created a conflict with the audio, clearing just the cache isn't a solution.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Just a little more clarity, it's not a specific audio app that crashes. It's any audio app I'm currently using. YT Music, Play Music, Castbox, etc. So given that it's not a specific app, my only guess is it's my OS that's doing it. I'll give it another 24 hours or so trying some other things but factory reset after that. It'll probably end up being my only option.
Thanks again everyone.

Don't forget to check your backups before you do go ahead with that Factory Reset.
But before you do, have you tried restarting your phone into its Safe Mode? When running in Safe Mode only the base Android OS gets loaded into memory so none of you installed apps gets pre-loaded during the boot process. If your audio is working OK while in Safe Mode that would indicate some app that's been installed is causing the problem. You still need to determine just which one so that can be a hassle but not as much as having to restore your account after a Reset.
