Strange Icon in Notification shade

This icon appeared for a while on my Notification shade, but disappeared after a reset. Wanted to post this and find out if anyone knew what it was.

Can only imagine it's a spyware thing, just because of the eye. But I've never seen it before and all scans report no malware.

Hope you guys can help. Thanks.

Spyware does not advertise itself by putting up an icon to say 'I'm spying on you' - that would be an unbelievably dumb thing to do!

Did you try pulling down the notification shade to see what notifications were present, then press on that one to find out what it is?

Yeah, there's nothing. It's just an icon with no app associated. After a restart, it just went away.

But... I've noticed that I have more icons above my home button sometimes. Extra call/contacts pinned there.

I don't know what calls/contacts pinned above the home button means. Are these desktop icons (in which case placement above the home button doesn't mean anything except that there was space there), or some widget or a launcher feature? Different phones can have different interfaces (due to the manufacturer installing their own default launcher), so this may be something I've never come across as I've never actually seen a Pocophone in real life. Hence I don't know what to make of this.

On my phone, I can customise the icons above the home button. You'll see that I have Spotify and camera there for myself. But at times, there are extra contact/call buttons for some reason.

Last night I scanned with Malwarebytes and found nothing shady. This situation just had me worried that I downloaded something that was dodgy. I'm not in the habit of installing other sources apps too often

Ah, you mean icons in the "dock"! I took "above the home button" too literally (as something special directly above the home button, rather than the row of icons above the navigation bar).

But extra icons appearing there is odd, not least because the number of icons in the dock is generally fixed (or you need to go into the launcher's settings to change it). Do these appear in place of other icons or as well? Are they the same size? Do they only appear at certain times (e.g. if you press the phone icon you'd get a pop-up above it with frequently-called numbers), and do they disappear by themselves?

Most phone apps have ways of adding contact shortcuts, which could conceivably happen accidentally if you let your finger linger too long in the wrong place. But I'd not expect them to appear in the dock.

I think it's because I use MIUI instead I am able to add my own shortcuts there.

As for the duplicate icons, I haven't noticed this behaviour the last few days. I would unlock my screen to see occasionally there were 2 call/contacts buttons there. Not sure why, but so far it has stopped.

Still no more appearances of that weird icon either. Scanned with a Spyware specific app too, still nothing found.
