Built in screen recorder privacy issue...

Hi

I have found that the built in screen recorder with the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Something strange and possibly malicious form OnPlus is that you cannot uninstall or disable it. You can only force to stop it and then it come back on after a few hours.

You cannot deny any of the permission which are microphone, storage and telephone.

I did contact OnePlus about that and got a silly answer like (we will contact the developer about that...)

Well usually you can't with manufacturer system features and functions, unless rooted. And most recent phones and tablets do come with a screen-recorder feature as part of their firmware, nothing unusual or strange here.

That sounds right, after all it's only the Oneplus firmware developers that can answer such questions.

Nothing amiss in your screen-shots, my Android phones looks the same.

Remember, the screen-recorder is something the user must activate, it can't sneakily activate itself.

You Sid use must activate it but the app itself is alway running unless I force to stop it myself.

But I remember that If I want to use the app, it ask me to consent for the permissions.

Mmmmmm.... I'm not a coder but I find that strange that it's always running and after force stoping it, it comes back on after a while.

I think what you are seeing is Android trying to preload your most recent/most used apps. Part of the OS memory management is to keep as much memory active as possible to make the device responsive and efficient. It's not actually running but simply cached in active memory. If any part of the screen recorder is needed by any other app as a shared service, it will also be listed as "running" when it's actually not.
