I did i actually had to unzip the folder into backups and remove it from the 771ed0ff folder otherwise it fails to restore.

I got working however bluetooth doesnt work for whatever reason. I'm going to restore once again and see if it was just a glitch. did you have bluetooth working when you created the backup?

Yes bluetooth was working. Can you post the steps you took that got it to work. So someone else can follow exactly what you did.
When you restored your phone it's like getting a new phone. You probably need to clear devices from your cars bluetooth or your speakers. Here's a guide. Step 1: Clear devices from your phone's memory
Open your phone's Settings app .Tap Connected devices . Previously connected devices. If you don't see 'Previously connected devices,' tap Bluetooth.If you see devices you're not currently using, next to each device name, tap Settings  Forget device.If you paired your phone and car before, next to your car's name, tap Settings  Forget device.
Step 2: Clear devices from your car's memory
To clear devices paired with your car, follow your car's manual.
Clear any devices you're not currently using.If you paired your phone and car before, clear your phone.
Step 3: Refresh the device list, then pair
To learn whether to pair from your phone or car, check your car’s manual.
Pair from your phone
Check that your car is discoverable and ready to pair.Open your phone's Settings app .Tap Connected devices. If you see 'Bluetooth,' tap it.Tap Pair new device your car's name.
Pair from your car
Open your phone's Settings app .Tap Connected devices. If you see 'Bluetooth,' tap it.Keep this screen open.On your car's list of devices, pick your phone's name. If asked, check that the PINs shown on your phone and car's screens match.Tap Allow access to your contacts and call history.Tap Pair, Accept, or Confirm.

Still working on getting bluetooth to turn on it wouldnt even enable it was greyed out.

I wiped it and restored it again this time i couldnt get past sign in to google because gmail was crashing.

Am I assume I have to still install the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip because booting without it installed doesn't allow it to fully boot up after 15 minutes only when I flash it after the restore does it boot.

Same results bluetooth is greyed out unable to turn on on my phone. Bluetooth was working on the pie roms before and on my original stock rom when i got the phone reverting back to the pie rom and I have bluetooth

Try step 4 to 8 after you restored it again.

Since I did not have ths stock files this is what I did first I download the two files to my sd card

Then I rebooted into twrp

1) Wipe Dalvik/Cache,Sistem,data,internal storage, except MicroSd where your files are.
2) did not have the stock zip so I flash with the non rooted stock zip file that I downloaded into the micro sdcard.
. press back click install
then I click back again and click install no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip
4)System Reboot (it will stay in the logo of ZTE now return to restart in recovery)
5) Wipe normal, not advanced.
7) Reboot System
8) it stays on the zte logo for like 5 minutes then it starts.

I save those files to my mega account in case I need them again.

Did step 4 through 8 Bluetooth still wont turn on I think my Bluetooth module may be borked on stock roms because I flashed
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL] Lineage OS 14.1 for ZTE ZMAX PRO
Back over and Bluetooth works.

I also tried nettaylors stock rom version 6.0.1 for the zte zmax pro 981

Trying to help you I accidently clicked wipe. arrgg but here is what i'm doing step by step on how i'm getting my phone back to work.

. I'll explain it more clear

Since I did not have the stock files this is what I did first.

I download the two files to my sd card then I rebooted into twrp

1) click the Wipe tab. select advanced Wipe .check Wipe Dalvik/Art Cache,Sistem,Data,Internal Storage.Cache, EXCEPT MicroSd and USB-OTG where your files are. slide to wipe then click the back button do not reboot system. then back again with the arrow untill you see the install tab
2)click the install tab select the storage micro sdcard and click ok.
3 select ZTE-ZMAX-PRO-B21-STOCK_NON-ROOTED.ZIP.
4.then swipe to confirm flash.
5.ill say this may take 5 minutes or more.
6.ill say no os installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot? then swipe to reboot. if the it loads the welcome screen just turn off first. then turn it back on by holding the volume up button and power button at the same time.
7.in twrp click install tab. click select storage select micro sd then click ok.

8.then click on the no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip then swipe to confirm flash. when its done ill ask if you would like to install the official twrp app. swipe to install twrp app and it will reboot.
9.if it loads in the welcome screen turn it off then turn it back on by holding the volume up button and power button at the same time to go back into twrp.
10) click the wipe tab. then slide Wipe to factory reset, not advanced wipe.
11) then click Reboot System
12) it stays on the zte logo for like 5 minutes then it starts.

I save those files to my mega account in case I need them again.

Thats exactly the steps I followed but bluetooth is still busted on the rom for me. I appreciate the help.

I changed the steps now it's 1 through 12. I wrote down every step. And notice that I took extra steps. Anyways if you try it again let me know if it works.

Thank you Manuel_52 for making a step by step post and for all the link...I really appreciated it. I have gotten to step 8 and then I get the attached photo message. If anyone has a recommendation I would appreciate it. I reboot and perform the factory wipe after that error and then get stuck on the MetroPCS Boot Animation forever.

I'll upload the backup with a working partition tomorow after you get it restore it with it and I'll tell you how to fix the Bluetooth if it doesn't work.

Here is the link for you to Restore your phone. But you need to extract it first then place it on the micro sd card,

1.wipe cache
2.install no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip then reboot
3. back and click restore stays in the boot screen
4 then load into twrp an install no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip
5 then click back and install ZTE-ZMAX-PRO-B21-STOCK_NON-ROOTED.ZIP
select there wipe dvk cache then reboot
6 swipe to install twrp app.
3. once its restored Bluetooth might not work. check settings to see if it works.

How to make Bluetooth work. if it not working after restore.
turn off your phone. then go back to TWRP holding volume up and power.
4 then load into twrp an install no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip
5 then click back and install ZTE-ZMAX-PRO-B21-STOCK_NON-ROOTED.ZIP
select there wipe dvk cache then reboot
6 swipe to install twrp app.

Hi I just tried to install the stock rom for zte I followed all your steps wiped everything then flashed stock rom and dm-verity then restarted system went back into recovery factory resetted it then rebooted and it wont load up its stuck on zte boot logo.

Hello everyone have been gone a while from deving for the z981, if you are having issues please check back in a day or so.
I will be updating the stock rom for permanent fix to all issues, if your phone is a t-mobile brand DO NOT install this stock rom as i will post another for tmo phones.

Hello Everyone. Recently I By Mistake Flashed A Zip In My ZTE ZMAX PRO. After That Every Time I Flash Stock Rom Or Any Rom. The Phone Doesn't Turn On. It Stuck On Boot. In Twrp It Show Can't Mount Firmware (Invalid Argument). Now I Need The Firmware Folder Of Zte Zmax Pro. In The Phone Go To Root Folder & There Are A Folder Name Firmware. I Need That Folder Otherwise My Phone Will Not Turn On. I Asked Many Other People But They Aren't Helping. So Pls Pls Help Me And Give Me The Firmware Folder Of Zte Zmax Pro.
