VZWsupport Twitter now says leakers WILL receive OTA..

Unless the VZW twitter people can explain "How" the leakers are going to get the update, then I would NOT believe a word of it.

Most software updates check version numbers. The leaked v3 and OTA release software versions are identical. Are they really going to write a customer script that looks for some unique identifier for the very small number of users who installed any of the leaks? And to differentiate between leaks 1 thru 3 for that matter is going to be interesting.

Also, the OTA script CLEARLY identifies a version check for 1.5. See above remarks.

The ONLY way leakers are getting OTA is by a standalone installer. So......unless the twitter support care to explain how the OTA is going to be delivered, then I would not believe a word they say.

I have said all this before in numerous posts and yet people still want to torture themselves and provide misinformation to everyone else. There are a few major hurdles to get over before an OTA for leakers is going to happen. Please STOP asking care and other sources this same question. I have told you the facts. Not sure why people ignore it.

I do not tweet or use twitter at all. I get my information from 30 years as a tech geek (and no I am not 30 years old) and by the fact I work for the phone company

Sigh OTD,.........major SIGH

I agree completely.

"I have told you the facts. Not sure why people ignore it."

I don't think that people are ignoring you, I just think that they don't want to believe it, and that any glimmer of hope that they might get the official update is something worth talking about it.

Buthead007 I really do agree with you to some level, but I think what is keeping this whole thing going is the fact we all keep on being given some very misleading information from a source that should state the facts or nothing at all. Half the day were being told that we will get the OTA then the other half were being told we will not. If from the beginning we were told no we won't be getting the OTA and had they stuck with that story this whole debate would not even be happening right now.

Yes people jump the gun, thats why all us leakers are in the situation we are in right now. We all worked hard for what we have, and I'm sure we are all fascinated by the eris. I know it bothers me not be able to tap into the full potential of my new toy and I'm constantly reading the forums hoping that someone has found a fix. I start to give up on the whole idea and then all of a sudden a Verizon rep basically tells the whole world that its coming within a certain time frame. That time frame ends tonight so I truly understand why people are angry and why they are visiting Twitter ,and also why this whole discussion is taking place.

People are impatient, they want it now, it's human nature.

I really at this point have more faith in the devs finding a fix than Verizon releasing one in a reasonable time frame. At least the devs are honest with NO ROOT. Possible exploit but nothing yet. They have never or at least that I've seen made a promise for a fix and put a timeframe on it.

i was using the leak. then last week, my 3g stopped working. after various phone calls to verizon, an automated option told me that they were trying to send my phone an update. I wasnt able to get the update however. I believe by them trying to send me the update, and my eris not accepting it was messing up my 3g. i got verizon to send me a new phone due to it being under warranty.

I just got the new eris today. it said that there was an update availabe. I updated the phone, and now i have verizon's official 2.1. I am firmly convince that if I wouldnt have rooted, I would have had the ota last week and my 3g wouldnt have gone out. But i dont regret rooting one moment.

by the way i was using evil eris 2.0 when my 3g went out, then went back to 2.1 and it still wasnt working. now hopefully verizon dont go thru my old phone and try to charge me for a new phone

We, or at least I, get all of the technical reasons for not being able to receive the OTA... it's physically, mentally, digitally, empirically, mythologically... etc. etc. impossible to do.

These threads are being created to watch the soap opera that the VZWSupport Twitter account is creating...

It amazes me how a company can be so ignorant to the technologies they support

Apparently it was a miscommunication on their part. Or ZC is just an idiot. I understand the concept of the company as a whole, but this lady was caught in the crossfire of what someone else started. Most companies I've worked for if one employee caused something that others had to apologise for on behalf of the company, it came with serious reprecussions for the employee that caused the issue. Hopefully ZC will be looking for a job tomorrow and this won't happen again.

I doubt it was a miscommunication. Either they were instructed to tell leakers a lie, or they are completely clueless and should be fired. Verizon has good engineers, they would have known from day 1 that the OTA wasn't reaching everyone. Hell, they had to approve the code. There's no way they magically realized the OTA wasn't going out to leakers on the LAST day.

I have a hard time believing that a corporation as big as Verizon would allow or actually give the order to an employee to lie to the customers. I'm leaning more towards the actual employee is an idiot who clearly is not qualified to be in the position to be the voice of the company. Image is everything. Trust also. When you blatenly lie to customers you lose them. Thats bad for business. And I don't know of any companies that are in the business of throwing money away.

+1 that dude was a huge moron on Sunday. What he told people to do could have potentially bricked ppl's phones. He didnt know what he was talking about. Kinda pathetic for vz support. But hey... its a mega million dollar company. they could care less about a few rogue leakers...

BTW... V3 leak is identical to OTA. So no, if u have V3, you wont be getting the OTA. Ever.

The others, I'm not sure about. Honestly, I'm rooted and dont pay attention anymore. I just though the vzwsupport thing was funny to watch go down :)

my head was about to fall off for a split second as I was reading this. I thought to myself, "self" if the verizon rep that sold me this phone had bothered to tell me that it would be obsolete in six months, not gonna sell it, and not gonna bother to keep it up to current tech specs after may, I would of told him to get bent, Im not wasting my money. then I remembered that I bought this phone online, and it was free with my upgrade. no salesman lied to me, so I really have no right to be mad. I know , I know, whatever I have to tell myself to be able sleep at night. v3 is alright. except for my phone never ringing when my wife calls. I cant tell you how many calls i have missed from family and friends with the no ringer thing. other that that inconvienient tid bit i am happy with v3

Have you ever heard the phrase "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"?

People have been asking VZW for information regarding 2.1 since the Eris has been released and have gotten any number of conflicting responses. Why would this change all of a sudden?

Until people stop asking VZW for answers, we will continue to see these threads on this forum. It's going to start all over with 2.2 shortly. You're going to see a dozen threads a week started by somebody who called VZW to ask if the Eris will receive 2.2 and when.

I don't get the fascination with the OTA. It doesn't contain any magical fixes that the v3 leak doesn't already have. Not only are the checksums for every file, minus the bootloader, identical, but people on the OTA are experiencing identical issues to people on the v3 leak. It's the exact same OS. Checksums do not lie.

When they release the "official" version via download, everybody can install it.

1. Having official software instead of a leak is putting my mind at peace. I'd like to be able to accept 2.1.5 that fixes all these known bugs. HTC wont let their product not function correctly.

2. Who said the downloadable update will be any different, we are still stuck with this new bootloader and we cant go backwards. Unless the online update has the bootloader we are using then we SOL. But why would it when their leaving the OTA receivers on the old bootloader.

Can someone explain to me the lesson of the leak? This was the first time I have ever done something daring with my phone, and what do you know? It blew up in my face... My bad... :D Well, that being said, I'm guessing that all future rooting, future updates from Verizon, and basically the future of the phone is a no-go? I am on V2, but I am guessing I should go V3 because it is the last update this phone will ever see?

So has anyone that returned there phone with the v3 leak been charged the full price for the phone? The only reason I want to get off the leaked version is if my phone breaks under warranty I would like to eventually get it fixed. The reason I went to the leak was I figured I would get the official version sometime and it wouldn't matter. However now it looks like we are stuck. My guess as to whats going to happen is in a month or so the OS will be available for download. The devs will fix it to install over the leak and bam we are good. But until then I'm worried something stupid will happen to the phone and I won't be able to get it fixed. I know I took that risk running the leaked OS however I didn't think it would have taken this long for the official release of 2.x for the eris. Anyways main point to my ranting is will Verizon eventually notice you're leaked and charge you when you warranty exchange the phone?

I have exchanged three different Eris handsets running various 2.1 leaks and Verizon has not charged me for any of them. I've taken my latest replacement, phone #4, into the Verizon store for track ball issues, and they haven't even mentioned anything about it being rooted and running the Evil Eris ROM. They are either completely clueless, or they just don't care.

That's awesome. I remember a while ago someone saying that once it got to the factory to be refurbished they were charged for the phone. Your story makes me feel a lot better
