Reverse lookup really free

My friend has been getting calls from a mysterious number. Since he's even worse at this stuff than I am, he asked me to find out who it was. I tried a number of "free" lookup sites, but they all a. couldn't find it, b. wanted to charge, or c. both. Is there a REALLY free way to do this?

I wouldn't bother. It's probably a robocall from a spoofed number trying to scam him.

Most of the free reverse lookup sites will give you basic information for free, like a name or city, but you pay for the details. Some of them will say the found it but it will cost you to see the data. Those I'd avoid.

What is YouMail? How will it help identify a caller? Does it replace gmail?
None of the above.

I've never used it, but I've seen it mentioned around here lately. It's an app that lets you dispense with robocalls and other unwanted crap automatically.

Here's its Play Store page.

It says it has ads. I don't do ads. Perhaps it has a paid upgrade--I didn't investigate that far.

I use the free version and never get ads.
That's odd. I wonder if the developer knows about that.
Works great, it does what it should, which blocks spam, spoofed, telemarketers calls, even stops voice messages from them. It will replace your current voice mail, but you can always uninstall it if you find it not to your liking.
Sounds great. Too bad there's nothing like it for landlines.

I don't normally use free apps. If I try an app and like it, I buy the paid version; if I don't like it, I uninstall it. I appreciate the time, skill, and creativity that goes into creating a nice app, and I want to encourage talented developers to keep 'em coming! And I can't stand ads...

You Mail has been outstanding for me for blocking spam. I haven't received one spam call since starting it in April. Now you may have to enter a spam number to add to their database of known spam numbers and that happens with any call blockers.

The fact that it plays a message stating "This number has been disconnected" to your blacklist or Youmail's blacklist is just great. Also, they can't leave a voice mail even if it is dead air.
After all, I don't just block spam numbers.

As far as ads, I use an ad blocker so I don't see any ads on my phone.

You Mail was known for its voicemail and it's great at that too. Huge library of pre recorded voicemail greetings and works great. Alot better than any of the carrier voicemail apps.

I use YouMail for my mobile, too. It's almost perfect I think. For landline, I always manually look up the numbers on Google or some online complain boards, like http://whycall.me or any other similar websites. It takes a lot of time, but what else can we do?

What the heck is that? Is there a nongoogoo alternative? What does it do? Most of the time I'm just looking for a phone number or email address, rarely a physical address, almost never anything else.
google fi is google's own telecommunication company.....so basically they have their own cell service you can use instead of att or verizon for example. i think they use t-mobile and US cellular towers though.

Meet Google Fi

I also had the same situation and I couldn't find the caller. A person called and told me some unpleasant things about my husband. Firstly, I thought that it is his ex but I was wrong. This was not a childish joke because it was the voice of an adult. I asked my husband and he didn't know what to answer. So, I used the service Reverse Phone Lookup to find the number and I got information about the scammer who called. I decided to contact the police, but it takes too much time and action, so I left this venture and just blocked this number.
