Onedrive is now syncing, not backing up. How to fix?

A month ago, I keep getting a message on my phone saying that Samsung drive will expire soon and to use Onedrive instead. Since I did this, all my photos on my phone is being synced not backup to my Onedrive. When I go into Onedrive under Settings, it has a new menu called Gallery sync. The old Onedrive backup has been removed. I always take photos or download meme and delete them off my phone the next day. Onedrive always backs it up real-time but now it syncs it overnight. How do I have it as the old way again?

I stay away from Onedrive altogether and opt for using Google photos...
Saves all of your photos and videos to the cloud.

unfortunately there is no setting to schedule sync's on OneDrive......you can force it to sync if you want to, but there is not much you can do to change it. i believe it is supposed to sync when changes are detected.......so maybe it depends on access to the internet? not really sure on how it detects changes.

I don't want it to sync i want it to backup like it has been doing so for years. I don't have enough memory on my phone so i always did delete my photos daily after it auto backup to onedrive. Please help!

ok, you need to unlink it from Samsung Cloud in both Microsoft and Samsung. Here are the steps

In order to get your OneDrive Camera roll (Camera upload) feature enable you need to unlink your Samsung cloud from OneDrive. Here's how you may disintegrate your Scloud from OneDrive:
You need to stop the Samsung Gallery app syncing photos to OneDrive and remove the Samsung data sharing permissions to your Microsoft Account, you'll need to edit how you sign-in to Microsoft:

Open your Microsoft Account's Additional security options.
Next to

Samsung account, select Remove.
On your mobile device, go to Settings > Accounts.
Scroll down and select your

Samsung account.
Tap Apps and services then Connected services.
Remove your Microsoft account from the list of Linked accounts.

Tip: You may also need to unlink your Microsoft account from your Samsung account Connected services .

Once you will successfully unlinked your Samsung cloud from OneDrive then please relaunch your OneDrive app and check your Me icon> tap Settings > Camera upload (tap on it to check all option under Camera upload, make sure it is turned on, to learn more please refer to the article: Automatically save photos and videos with OneDrive for Android.)

and just an fyi syncing and backing up are pretty much the same thing. if you make changes one drive should detect it and sync the drive with your phone....meaning it will backup whatever changes were made.

Syncing means its deletes it on all devices when I deleted it from my phone. I take photos every day and have no memory on my phone so I forced to delete them. This is the case for most people where syncing is useless.

not necessarily....syncing means that whatever changes you made to onedrive on your phone it will make changes to the drive on your computer. if you add a photo, once sync'd the photo should be on your onedrive..... so it is not just deleting.

and this applies to all apps that gets sync'd with your phone. this how my google photos work for me on my phone. i take a picture on my phone and i can hop on my computer and wait for it to finish syncing and my photos will appear. i would then just need to download the photo to my computer to fully get the photo.

That's why I don't use Google and use Onedrive instead.

I can't wait for Proton to release Proton Drive with more data. It's encrypted compared to Google and Onedrive.

Google Photos is a better options if you're in love with your photos/videos/GIFs because I've been using photos since 2014 and still all the photos and videos are safe like heck. The app never bother me to check and backup everything with a single click.
