Do I have to accept OS updates on my LG G6?

I have an LG G6 with Android 8 OS. I'd like to know if I can avoid the possibility of it updating to Android 9 OS or higher forever. I mean effectively block any OS upgrades so that there are no accidents. If the phone becomes more vulnerable, let it be.

This OS still allows phone recordings (related to my Stylo 6 thread). I would hate to go through the effort of swapping phones and then have it install OS 9 or higher in the middle of the night.

I know there were other options discussed, but I'd like to swap this phone with a family member and give them them my Stylo 6...help them out and give them an upgrade while I can use a phone and OS that meets my needs perfectly.

Also, how can I stop updates upon resetting the phone? Looks like you are forced to updates when resetting the phone.

Thanks!

This really depends on the phone. Most models allow you to decline or delete updates and turn off checking, but models sold by US carriers often do not. That's not an Android thing, it's the control-freaky carrier removing the option and forcing people to accept updates.

That said, do you really expect any more updates on a phone that old? It certainly won't update beyond Android 9 because LG never built an Android 10 update for it. If it's still on Android 8 has the family member been taking any special steps not to update it?

I've never heard of being forced to update if you reset, though of course if you have changed a setting to reject updates that will be cleared during an update (but a reset should delete any previously-downloaded update, so it would have to download again before it could be installed). Can you tell us more about where you heard that?

Thank you, I worked around the issue....but I was forced to perform an update right after resetting the phone even after as you mentioned rejecting the updates within the OS. Kind of a catch 22. The phone did not make it into the OS so the rejection of settings did not apply.

Either way, I just went with another phone.
