All these months later and STILL nothing about it! Of course, 2020 was to time what disco was to music: those of us who lived through it will spend the rest of our lives pretending that it never really happened. But surely somebody out there, somewhere, is working on a Wear OS device with a more capable chip than the 3100.
I remain hopeful that Montblanc will release a Summit 3 watch with the new 4100 processor... or who knows? Now it'll be a 5100? All I could find online was a
business outlook for the company that reads, in part:
Beyond a retail footprint, Montblanc is investing heavily into its digital business. According to Bain, online sales in the luxury market made up EUR49bn in 2020, up from EUR33bn in 2019. The share of purchases made online, it added, doubled from 12 per cent in 2019 to 23 per cent in 2020. “Digital accounts for around 15 per cent of all sales at Montblanc,” says Renard, while adding, “I would want to bring it to 20 per cent in the very near future.”
Montblanc lost its footing, I think, with its Summit 2+ and Lite watches. They need to stay in the luxury business and not compromise. I rely on my smartwatch to keep my phone in its holster when I need only check a notification, send a text, work with my shopping list or see what time it is. The Summit 2 continues to serve me well as the flat-out BEST watch I've ever owned, of any kind, ever. That timeless look, combined with a new processor, should be well worth the money.
