Help HTC Hero big time problems....

EXACTLY the same problem and its irritating the hell out of me. Funny it should happen to everyone at around the same time. Is the board set with a 6 month timer to start malfunctioning?!

So, if I get it replaced, what's the guarantee that it won't malfunction again after 6 months? It will surely be out of warranty then!

a big thumbs down to HTC for not clarifying the problem...

Just registered to say 'me too'. Last week touchscreen started acting flakey and is now nearly unusable. Add on the complication that it's a UK unlocked Orange phone on a T-mobile SIM. Am having to ship it back to the UK for repairs that may/may not be covered under warranty. Having been reading these forums for months and getting a lot of good advice, I am shocked by the coincidence of a few of us having the same issue at the same time.

This is not an isolated issue, My wife got her G2 Touch the week after me, and she came home tonight with the same problem, the screen was geting less and less responsive and she almost had to poke her finger through the phone to open some apps.

As you say above, what happens if this goes again ?, your stuck with a U/S phone and a two year contract, not only that, but your paying for a web service, but get stuck with a jumk loan phone for two weeks while it's repaired.

Come on HTC, address this fast growing problem

Hi folks

I had this problem about 1 month after geting the phone. I called HTC and they repaired and returned it within a week. Since then, which was 6 months ago, I have been really happy with the phone until this weekend when the problem started again.

I have 18months left on my contract and I'm going back to my N95 until I can afford an iphone.

Ok so my Hero has screen orientation issues. It used to work perfectly, then about a month ago, I found that I had to shake the shit out of it once turned sideways in order for it to adjust, and now, nothing will change the screen view. I'm fed up and have insurance on the phone, it should still be under warranty. I'm about to throw it in the toilet and take a shit on it. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Yeah they gave me a link to update the software. 6 hours later it was updated, and i thought everything would be fine right? Wrong! My trackball stopped working, everytime I dialed my job, my phone would call the police, it also started to randomly call people. I could send about 3 text messages and then my phone wouldn't display any text input forcing me to restart. I called to complain and was told that I must've damaged the phone. So...I made that false conclusion a reality. I threw the phone at the wall as hard as i could and sent it in for a new one. It's been a month, so far so good.

Hi guys,

This is not a simple 'me too' reply.
I have my hero for 1.5 years now, the problem described here
started this week.

I tried a few things to circumvent it and found (at least for me) a temporary workaround. I should mention that this does not exclude the possibility of a hardware problem, but it reduces the effect of the defect what ever it may origin from (app./os/hardware).

When the problem occurs I just "FORCE CLOSE" the "Touch Input" service.
This usually stops the keyboard from flickering and I finally can finish to type my email.
Thanks god the menu is also accessible by using exclusively trackball input. So you enter the setting by using the "Menu" button and then you navigate with the trackball to: Settings | Applications | Manage Applications | Touch Input and there you select "FORCE CLOSE".
Afterwards (at least I am able to do so) the keyboard effect is gone for a while. So what I do is to keep the settings open and switch over using the "Home" button.
Maybe this defect becomes more tedious in time (as I read from other posts) and I will be no longer able to temporary fix it as described, but for now it does the job.

I have to say that I'm really disappointed and surprised by this bug and the still missing statement from HTC.

Feedback is welcome.
