Before Purchasing Galaxy S Consider This

Samsung has now decieded that no updates that were promised for the galaxy or the behold2 will be released as they have dropped support for them. there is no reason to believe they won't do it again with the Galaxy S which will probably never see 2.2. Please before you buy any Samsung phone look at these threads:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-behold-2/82735-push-t-mobile-samsung-support-their-devices.html

thanx for your time Im just trying to help because everything that was promised was an outright lie to boost sales.

I don't really think anybody needs this warning.

Obviously we all want 2.2 and later OS iterations, but it would be naive to purchase this phone on the basis that it'll get them.

I've pre-ordered on the basis that I like how this handset is now, and it offers something important to me that 2.2/other handsets don't - DivX/XVid/mkv support, a Super AMOLED screen, a better GPU, and the best Android SQ in a handset to date.

Thats totally cool then just want everyone to be as well informed as you and I that's all. You know what you are getting so that's fine but I personally won't do buisness with a company that outright lies to consumers the issue is they ran promos before release promising 2.0 for the behold 2 just to boost sales and now claim to have never said it and even used copywrite claims to get the videos removed in an attempt to hide the truth. Very unethical

Personally I believe that the 2.2 will come to the Galaxy S but anything above 2.2 will be a fantasy for Galaxy S users, but if Samsung manages to screw up a lot of customers on the Galaxy S by not giving it alteast 2.2 then it would be bye bye Samsung for a LOT of customers.

Still even if Samsung will officially announce that Galaxy S would be only a 2.1 device, id still buy it though, Im really sick and tired of Nokia and Symbian^1

Theres a samsung rep at the cnet forums if anyone wants to pester her over this. I remember a bunch of people, myself included, complained about one of the plasma tvs and she was very helpful in getting us help. She took my info and samsung called me and refunded me. I'm not sure she can help with the phones, but its worth a try. I'm guessing thats a good way to get samsungs attention or at least see if she can dig around and find out if samsung plans to support the galaxy s beyond 2.2.

You could also send out a mass email to samsung asking specifically if they are, to encourage them that it is a major selling point and impacts our decisions to purchase this phone and future phones from them.

Again, can't hurt.

EDIT: I went ahead and posted on cnet. Not even sure I want the phone, but whatever. lol

Proof of Samsung's Promises made about the Behold 2 regarding 2.0 (click on the still image to download the video in its entirety that way sammy can't get rid of it again):

YouTube - Getting Screwed By Samsung

How is this proof, you might ask? Well, first the video was copy written by Samsung in 2009(as seen at the end of the video). It was posted to the SamsungMobile youtube page before the Behold 2 was released and features Samsung's very own trademarked logo. So, if they want to claim its not there video, they need to sue somebody! Further proof of the video being authentic and produced by Samsung is that the same man that appears in this video appears in other Samsung walk throughs featured on their own youtube page! Here is proof of that:

this phone will get gingerbread and you know it

It most likely will until sammy will release its next flag ship, my predictions is that we get 2.2, ginger and whatever is next. And that would be enough for sammy to probably make another 4-5" display mobile phone with over engineered specs that will turn the galaxy S into a prehistoric device.

I don't doubt the OP in any of the material he's posted. It's plain honest facts and I commend him in bringing to the attention of our users here.

There is one other point to consider though that may make some of what the OP kindly mentions and that is a question of timing.....

The i9000 is being released right bang at the same time as when Froyo is announced.
This means the general consumer is going to want any new phone to have the latest tech and if he finds his machine is fitted with an older version he/she is going to question whether or not do they need the i9000 and instead wait or go elsewhere.

As bad as Samsung are to their customer base they will know this and I feel quite confident what will happen is any new phones of immediate sales (as in now) will get 2.1 but as soon as Froyo is out proceeding phones will be fitted with Froyo which in turn would pass down as an update for phones already sold.

They are marketing this phone as a mammoth improvement over existing phones so it makes perfect sense to ensure whilst it is being sold in great numbers it retains the best that technology can offer. :)

i agree with the OP as well..

they should sue samsung!

so to us who will be getting this device... if ever samsung intends to abandon this device after launch, we should make actions too.
Don't forget though... in order to make any official action you will first need written or verbal proof from Samsung on any intent that has not been undertaken. :)

oh well..

i might as well just get a new phone after 6 months of playing with it and save myself all the trouble hehe, that is if they choose not to update it after 6 months..
As much as it pains me to say this.... this is exactly what I will most probably be doing.

I am very strong though on principles so I do hope Samsung do come through. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I find it difficult to follow the logic of this arguement. We are talking about a phone, not yet released, and complaining about what the manufacturer may or may not provide in software updates in months to come.
I spent considerably more on a computer, and I have never had a call to say "windows 7 is out now, would you like a free upgrade?", I also drive a Jaguar 2.7 Lt Diesel, there is now a 3.0lt Diesel but Jaguar have not contacted me to offer to upgrade my engine to the latest spec.

Surely when buying anything, you decide on the parameters that are essential, then the things that would be nice, and decide on the product that is nearest to meeting all your needs, and buy that. No matter what you buy, you cannot guarantee that it will be future-proof.

To berate a company that is producing millions of units for world wide sales, because it doesn't happen to do exactly what you want, is a little bit presumptious.

If I buy a Galaxy S, it will be because of what it is, and where it stacks up against the competition NOW, not because of what might happen in the future.

i think samsung will change their game, its the first time they are going to have a best seller and with android, if it does anywhere as near as good as the desire which it should then they will have to do more to support it.

personally i think all previous samsung fones were mediocre and so could understand the lack of support.

it will certainly be good enough for the next 18 months and im sure this beast will be rooted bring it on!
