S21 Notifications when not using phone

With my S7, when I received a text or phone call, but was not at my phone, I could look at the phone and it would have a blue or green light to notify me I had missed a call or text. I have a new S21 and I haven't been able to find that option. If I touch my screen, I can see that I have missed it. Is that how it is now??
Thanks,
Abe

The recent Samsungs (and indeed most recent phones) don't actually have a notification LED, which is why you can't find the option.

I've seen people talk about "edge notifications", though as the S21 doesn't have the curved edges I don't know how that works. Best might be to wait for a Samsung owner to comment on that.

If the Always On Display is like my Pixel's there will be a little icon under the clock if you miss something. I personally find it less visible and less useful than the old LED, so for me this was a backward step. But then I still have an LED, so turned my AOD off after a couple of weeks and never missed it at all.

the s21 has edge lighting as far as i know. but the edge lighting only notifies you once. it will not repeat or anything like that. it is a pretty cool effect though.

Ah, it's not persistent. So probably doesn't help in this case.

I'm increasingly thinking that I just need an old phone (like 5-8 years old) with a more modern processor and current levels of storage. I find current phones too big, have stupid designs like glass backs, with useful features removed (notification LEDs, headphone jacks) and nothing useful replacing them. I guess I must be showing my age - maybe it's time I bought a little Nokia dumbphone and retired to sit on the porch complaining about how things used to be better? ;)

I agree with Hadron, give me my S7 back with an updated processor and I would have been happy.

More issues; Data is always turned off, away from the house speaking for text no longer works unless I turn on data!! Never had to do that with the S7, nor can I find the setting that would make it work, I will keep looking.

Some US networks are in the process of shutting down 3G, and 4G is a data-only protocol. You can make calls over it if the phone supports Voice Over LTE, but I don't know whether that requires data to be enabled or whether they have a special channel for it (it is still a VoIP connection, so data will be involved).

I don't know whether this is relevant, but it's what occurs to me.

I agree also with Abe911 and Hadron, really miss the notification light of the Samsung S7 that and its size, the Samsung S21 Ultra is big and weighty which for me almost outweighs its better camera.
I simply refuse to buy a bigger phone than I like just because that's what the manufacturers find most profitable. It does limit my choice of phones, but better that than spend a lot of money on a device that doesn't suit me.
