Wi-Fi keeps stopping/starting

Ok, so as some here may know, I smashed my junk device because it constantly was trying to update.

'security update'

Which, of course, had nothing to do with security, and everything to do with forcing updates to all the Google crap that I don't want- along with updates to all the apps that I do want that I do not want updates to.

So, I went and bought an unlocked phone, set it up with no Google or bloatware, and away I went.

Well, the Wi-Fi won't stay on unless I enable Google Play Services, which is the worst Google app of them all.

So, reluctantly I did, while limiting as many permissions as I can.
Also, it is blocked from the internet by my firewall.

But the Wi-Fi cuts off about once every minute and then reconnects in about 10 seconds.

This is not noticeable while online, except when streaming music or video- then it becomes most annoying.

Really, record albums and laserdiscs skipped less.

This is a perfect example of analog media being better than digital, but that is another arguement for a different time.

Now, to top it all off, the device is telling me that if I restart it, it will update- the same announcement that caused me to eventually smash (literally) my last device.

I have never had any devices before that were so insistant on pushing unwanted updates for unwanted apps.

I have no interest in setting up the phone from scratch all over again, just to have yet another stupid, unwanted, 'security update' force me to do so.

I will smash this thing as well and go on without a phone at all if I have to.

I feel that I have identified the culprit apps - Wi-Fi Manager and Device Care, and my question is if I can get them to go away with ADB.

If this is a new phone it will be getting security updates for a year or more, 99.999% of which wont cause any issues. Apps will get updates for years.

It is possible to remove preinstalled apps without root using ADB if your phone wont let you disable them. But be careful with system apps, removing a required one could mess up the phone.

If your phone gets an Android upgrade the app will return, and can be removed again using ADB.

How can I just prevent the 'updates'?

They are nothing to do with security, only updates of worthless Google junk that I don't use or want, along with unwanted updates of apps that I do not want updated at all.

I've never heard of that problem, and especially around these parts where there's millions and millions of Android devices using WiFi, and they don't have Google Play Services.

OT:
I only ever saw a laserdisc player once, in 1982 in a shop. I believe this format wasn't very successful. At that time our family was renting a VHS recorder.

Laserdisc was the beginings of the CD and DVD.
But actually the video and audio quality was better than both.

But they were large, fragile, and heavy.
Not to mention that halfway through a film it would stop and you had to insert the big square plastic container, wait for it to load the disc into its container, take it back out, reinsert it, and then watch the second half of the film.

Go to the Play Store settings and select the option to not auto update apps.

That will stop most, but some Google updates will still come through.

That cannot be it, as I have disabled Google Play Store, and there is no Google account on this device.

I have disabled everything Google on this phone.

Also, on every device that I own that does have Google poop (Poogle?) on it, Google Play Store is either disabled or has auto-update turned off.

I had a couple of DVDs that were like that as well, Where I had to eject and turn the DVD over halfway through the movie. What I remember about the laserdisc I saw, it was very expensive. I still remember the demo though, it was showing Star Wars blowing up the Death Star scene.

VHS recorders were expensive as well in 1982, and so we rented ours from the same place we rented our TV from, Visionhire.

I have everything to do with updates switched off.

When the device restarts, there is no update.

But this idiotic full page pest keeps popping up everytime the screen turns on, I make a call, start a game, whatever.

For the day, our VCR rocked.
It had Dolby noise reduction, was stereo, and lasted for 20+ years.

It actually had analog fine tuners for individual TV channels.

Of course, once cable TV became the thing to have, only one was needed, channel 3 or 4.

This is what we had, a Ferguson Videostar. Later on when VHSs became cheaper, we bought(not rented) a stereo Panasonic. .

Video killed the radiostar, but what killed the videostar?

We very often rented movies from the local video shop.

Or Lineage without GApps, or /e/. Install F-Droid/APKPure etc and you're good to go sans Google. You'll need a supported phone.

ok i might have an idea for you, go into wifi in settings and you should see my 3 dots at the top, click that and hit more or whatever the menu says there, you could have a wifi sleep setting on, if you can't find the menu then just go to settings and search for wifi or wifi settings, then every wifi setting should be listed, also you can enable developer mode, to to about phone click on software version i think, hit it like 5 times, if that isn't it then one of those Wil be it, but i belive it will definitely be a software version button that will enable it, then find your developer mode, towards the bottom look for networking and find wifi logging, turn it on, and then you will see exactly what is causing your disconnect problems

and finally it could be a problem with your phone thinking that the wifi networks are unsafe and it's kicking you off to protect your privacy, if so then search in settings for wifi trusted networks or anything to with that, hopefully one of those steps gets your phone to stay connected

It was a combinatipn of the two apps I mentioned before, along with Motorola System Updates (or whatever it is called).

Not able to disable these junk apps, I cleared storage for all three and force stopped them, and the problem has stopped for now.

As much as I like NoRoot Firewall, it seems that the most recent version is vulnerable to Google being able to turn the firewall off at a whim.
I have noticed this with other devices as well.
(The previous version did not seem vulnerable.)

The only way to prevent Google from turning off the firewall and doing what they will is to activate Always On VPN and Block Connections Without VPN.

Although Google can still deactivate NoRoot Firewall, the device then blocks all internet connectivity.
(Yeah, screw you, too, Google!)

For reference, NetGuard does not seem to have the same vulnerability.

It has been a few weeks now, and every week during my update/cleaning ritual I restart the device as well.

The update nag has not returned.

Wi-Fi is ok at best, as it is still inexplicably cutting out every now and then, but not consistantly and without a pest notification.

Perhaps this is just an Android 10 thing for Wi-Fi battery saving or something to do with the differences in Wi-Fi scanning that I am not used to yet.

My old Android 7.1s would link right up to any Wi-Fi they had connected to before, whereas I sometimes need to coax this thing to do so.

Yeah, I know what you are saying here, but this device has none of that- all of my old devices do, and I found it very strange that this one does not.

Whatever this stupid Motorola app called Wi-Fi Manager is, it needs Google Play Services to be on- regardless if Google Play Services is blocked from the internet, or if it is reduced to its lowest level (both are true).

This tells me that it does not truely 'need' Google Play Services in order for the device to function, It is mearly a way for Google to try to ensure that the worst app of theirs remains active on the device.

Anyone that believes that Google is NOT nefarious can feel free to explain that one to me.

This is a perfect example of exactly why I disabled everything Google and refused to even put a Google account on the device in the first place.

It is funny because apart from this, the device is quite nice, in fact the best device I have owned to date.
It is nothing really special, but it does run rings around what I have used before.
