Scam Information

AARP was even a victim of (phone) scammers.
Calls coming from their number were being spoofed.

Called my dad's house, the bastards.
Talking some smack that his social security card was to be suspended due to unpaid taxes.

Sheez, the government 'can't' stop these phone calls, but they can run healthcare, and are to be trusted to have our best interests?!?

Yeah, I"m sure that it could be done with just one more tax increase...

AARP may have a few good articles, but they abdicated their spot as seniors advocate a decade ago. We joined AMAC and are thrilled with the organization. Folks 50+ may want to check it out. Just sayin':)
I've been less than thrilled with AARP, although being a member did get me a hefty discount on my ADT alarm system. I've heard mention of AMAC before but don't really know anything about it. Can you briefly summarize what it does better than AARP? Do members get discounts, like I do on my Consumer Cellular bill with AARP? Why would/wouldn't I want to switch?

So basically like living under the Taliban… ;)
Only when it comes to random calls! Even when caller ID says "American Express" or "SoCal Edison," I KNOW it may very well be a...*BLEEPING* scammer spoofing their name/number.

When I get a call supposedly from a company I do business with, and they ask me for my birthdate, address, or other identifying information, I'll say, "um, YOU called ME--how do I know you're who you say you are? If you're really [fill-in-the-blank company], you should have that information, so YOU tell ME and then we'll take it from there." CLICK when it was a scammer. On the rare occasions it actually was legitimate, they totally understood my skepticism! Not once has anyone been offended.

Sure, but I'll PM you. That's getting off-topic and I don't want to hijack the thread.
