so i'm finally in the market to buy the playstation 5, but it seems that they are still in extremely short supply. apparently it is because of the semi conductor chips shortages. i was hoping to get the console and be able to play the new Horizon Forbidden West when it comes out Feb 22nd. i guess not:mad::mad::mad::mad:

sorry just wanted to vent. anybody else going to get the PS5? or wants to play the game? how has the chip shortage affected you?

edit: why has it not affected the sales of laptops and computers?

    I feel your pain.
Yesterday I bought a new Samsung laptop with no issues...
My gaming days have been over for a few years now.
    But I get it, buddy.
which samsung laptop did you get? i went to the Samsung Experience store and was playing some of their laptops. they are nice. i'm actually contemplating getting one.

Two years ago I backed a crowdfunded dashcam. The factories closed for Chinese New Year 2020 - and that's when the pandemic hit. Here we are, two years later, and the huge corporations are buying their way to the front of the line for processors. Small startups like this one are perpetually stuck, starved for the necessary chips. Many backers (who are apparently unaware that there's a global chip shortage) are flaming the creators as scammers or ripoff artists, when they are simply trying to get a product to market.

    Omg Mike!
I was doing the same thing back in the 90s, modded PS1 burning CDRs!!!

Yay! I was renting PS games from Blockbuster, and then burning CD-Rs. :thumbsupdroid:

These days I only do occasional retro gaming, Which is basically MAME on phone and laptop, a C64 Mini I bought last year that came wit Commodore 64 games built-in. And I did buy Pinball Arcade from Google Play Store, which is probably the only game I've actually bought in over 30 years!. LOL.

Last month I bought a new MacBook Pro, basically to replace my ageing MB Air. No issues, they were in-stock at the main Apple Store here in Jinan. "Assembled in China" of course, so I guess it didn't have to travel too far. And I expect outfits like Samsung and Apple, will get priority to get their chips made.

The chip shortage has affected me professionally, as the current lead times on some components (60-80 weeks) reduce options considerably.

Personally, not so much - I see a lot of items backordered, and I'm sure it's contributing to price inflation, but as there's nothing I need to buy I can sit that out.

Same here, my ps3 chip is still going strong, had this one for a decade.

So Walmart has the console bundles..... But they are going for $1000 or so!!!!!! Ridiculous!!!!!!! However they are from 3rd party vendors. Playstation and other online shops needs to stop selling to these poachers. They are stealing from us people who want to buy the console. I want one, but not that bad. And people need to stop buying from these A-holes!!!!!!!!!

The chip situation has affected my work. I work for a car dealership (actually 3 in the whole autogroup). We usually have at least 150 trucks on the lot. Now, we have about 5.

In a related note, ordering a vehicle has helped us stay afloat. Just a word of advice. Order your vehicle if you are shopping. If you can wait, you will get exactly what you want instead of settling on something that may have too many options or not enough. If you need one now, good luck.

Many auto makers are limiting their model selections, or dumbing down their vehicles, because they can't get processors. I crowdfunded an awesome dashcam, which has been held up because the chip supplier isn't supplying the processors. The big corporations like Apple, Samsung, etc are paying big money to get to the head of the line, pushing the smaller startups to the end. At this rate, I don't know if the thing will ever get manufactured.
