Get an N1 or wait for better android phone from Rogers

I currently own a Magic, that I just got last November. I love the Android OS.
Now my question is should I keep the magic and wait to get a hardware upgrade or get the Nexus 1 before Google closes its online store.
I ask because the Magic will probably never go past 2.1 unless I root it, but by getting the N1 I know that I will always get updates to the newest version.
Another question is will the N1 hardware be good for years to come? I don't want to be dropping $600 for a new phone every couple years when I can get subsidized phones from the carrier, but it won't be supported like the N1 is.
Thanks in advanced for your opinions.

Hi. I was in your situation a few days ago but when they said they'd be closing the Google store, I immediately ordered a N1 cause I was sick of waiting for the Magic update and suspect that getting a N1 in Canada after Google closes shop, will be again a waiting game.

It's not about the hardware. What's the point of having a great phone if you are hostage to HTC and/or Rogers/Telus/Bell to bring it up to date?

I love my N1, but really loved my Magic as well. If the plan is to wait for something better from Rogers I would go with the Nexus. Or look to rooting the Magic to make it new and fun before taking the $600 leap. This is going to be a crazy year for Android phones, which will be supported on the Rogers network is the next question.

I've never regretted my Nexus and am happily running Froyo (2.2) on it now :)

If your Hero is not abused, you can get $200-$300 on it on Craig list/ebay to subsidized part of the cost of the N1. There will always be better phones coming out, the question is, will it come to Canada and to your specific carrier at that.

If you don't know already, the Legend is coming to Bell and the Triumph (Desire) to Telus this summer. The Triumph is basically the N1 with HTC sense on it.

Personally I think you should sell your Hero and get the Nexus, you phone should last you a couple of years (spec wise) 1Ghz processor is pretty capable for many future updates to come. Also it's unlock, so if you travel to US/Europe/Asia, you can use your N1 ;) No bloat wares from carriers is a bonus :D And you know all about the waiting game when it comes to updates ;)
