since JIT is in froyo to speed up the phone maybe motorola will keep them in the OS since it wont have any lagginess.

True...I hadn't thought about that. Until I see this in a rom, or listed by VZW as a *feature*, I'll take the wait and see approach. But you make a good point...

@ nstallion - Yep, for sure once the AOSP is published, we will have a rom shortly after. Cyanogen, Pete and others are still trying to find a way to deodex the the N1 dumps, but have had not luck thus far...

More things to make it look like it could come sooner than.... 65.82 percent of the people might think. Yes, thats July and later added up as of the day of this post.

And even more that makes it look like that the wifi tethering is gone!!!! I was one who believed that they would keep it because of the palm pre and pixi having it. BUT, its only what it looks like at this time. We won't know for sure until it's on our phones.

The fact that it looks like it has been removed already makes me think that it might be pretty close to sending out. Their obviously working on removing the things that big V doesn't want on it.

I think it will be closer to the end of the year. The hold up will be Verizon... They will probably try to kill tethering ( or figure out how to charge for it ). Also, I am not sure Verizon wants the Moto Droid to have more features than the new Flagship Incredible which will take longer due to the Sense UI. I am 99.99% sure Verizon will not release the update for the Moto before the Incredible. ( Pure politics )

I say well after September......

Why does everyone think that Verizon will do something to the wifi hotspot, wasn't it Verizon that allowed it on the Palm Pre and Pixi?

Just my 2 cents.

I think VZW allowed it on the Pre and Pixi because they anticpated that approximately 5 units were going to be sold nationwide, judging by Sprint's results.

EDIT: I spent a good deal of time in a Verizon store once, and I saw Android phones going like hotcakes(relatively speaking, and some BlackBerrys too.) I didn't see a single Pre or Pixi go...

Based on the Droid life news I may go the root route myself. I think I'm fine with how my Droid currently works..I don't care for anymore radio updates. The verizon/motorola OTA being made seems like it gimps some of 2.2's appeal. If the community produces a stable, fully featured 2.2 rom...I'll take it. I've always bemoaned how much 'rooters' boasted about having the latest and greates...now it looks like i'm poised to join them.

I really want the 3d launcher, and 5 homescreens. If Moto/VZW don't deliver, I'm rooting. (I've been too scared to root, lol)

The 3D launcher is not necessarily a great option - for a lot of people the 3D version gets very laggy...

If you want a great launcher now, w/out rooting, load Launcher Pro from the market (free). Has 3D explode/implode for the icons when launching, and brilliantly fast/smooth 2D scrolling. Best of both worlds...no lag.
