Help Issue: Dismount/disappearing defect in the Included 8GB MicroSD?

Well, folks, shit just hit the fan for me.

Update 6/1/2010
:
I have terrible news. While on vacation in France (and therefore unable to swap out the SD card for another), I have today spent a whole day in Monaco and Monte Carlo which ended up being my favorite little places in all of France and its surroundings.

After taking a myriad of breathtaking and irreplaceable pictures and videos and coming home, I found none of them were present on the card. Instead, a LOST.DIR with about 2GB of data. The defect described here, which until now only needed a reboot to get fixed, has now progressed into something that I don

Well, I've pretty much decided to hold off getting the EVO on launch day. I'll keep watching this thread and other news sources for a "fix." I'll wait at least 4 to 8 weeks for a repair/fix. If they haven't solved the problem by then, which I'm 95-100% sure they will have, but if they haven't, I'll probably break down and get an Incredible. I really want an EVO because I live in a 4G city, Honolulu, HI. But, I can wait a little longer for a 4G phone, if I have to.

Has anyone confirmed that reformatting cures this? I've actually gotten this problem a couple times, and I want to remedy it.

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk Pro.

Reformatting does not work 100% of the time. I've done it twice now & had failures occur within 24 hours.

For now, I am placing my hope in my replacement card, which will hopefully arrive today.

I did speak to Sprint IO tech support, who called me back as promised. If you are having this issue, please call in. The more bitching they hear directly, the better.

I was successful at recovering some lost data from Monaco using PhotoRec http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki... & Recuva Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

I think Recuva recovered pretty much the photos I was deleting and recovered no videos but PhotoRec recovered a whole bunch of stuff I definitely didn't delete and recovered all or most of the videos too (though it somehow renamed the 3gp into mp4 - how did it know they're the same?).

I highly recommend PhotoRec as it's more comprehensive and low-level.

Still looking for something that can try to recover the 2GB of data in the LOST.DIR - it's there for some reason, right?

ZAR data recovery software - do it yourself data recovery and digital image recovery. might be worth a try. Good software.

Well, my 16 gig card finally showed up today. A Transcend class 6 if you're curious.

Amazon.com: Transcend 16 GB microSDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card TS16GUSDHC6E: Electronics

Did a full format on the puppy and moved about 3 gigs worth of MP3s and photos over. Hammered the SD Card by playing MP3s in the background while surfing photos and running the SD Speed Test, and everything seems stable so far!

Keep those fingers crossed!

Sounds promising. I have a spare 8GB card that I had in my HTC TP2. I formatted it and am using it now. Been 4 days and not a single problem. I think the problem is a bad batch of SD cards from SanDisk shipping in the EVOs. Sprint and RS and BB better be ready to replace them when the EVO goes on sale.

I switched cards with my Hero's 8GB and it seems fine EXCEPT that maybe once a day or so, the card starts running slow (checked by SD Card Speed Test app). A reboot fixes the speed. Makes me wonder if I don't reboot if it will eventually start failing again.

Interestingly enough, I have had issues with uploading images to Picasa where the images show up on Picasa with some corruption (jaggy grey bar at the bottom). Seems to only happen when the card is in the funky slow state. A reboot and reupload fixes it.

Now HERE'S where it gets even MORE interesting...the same thing is happening on my Hero! And I've updated my Hero to 2.1 and it has Sense on it as well.

I'm not saying these issues are necessarily related, but it's simply more data to figure out what may be wrong. Personally, I think it's a 2.1 software bug, probably with Sense.

Would be interested to see if anyone else sees what I am seeing...a slowdown of the SD card throughout the day. Basically, run SD Card Speed Test throughout the day and note down the numbers. For me, by the end of the day, it has a write speed of 1mb/s, and that's when I get Picasa upload issues.
