Vzw emp. says the MotoDroid is better than DInc

This is a great thread. Before the pre-order went into play I called VZ with some questions and the VZ rep told me that the Moto Droid was a better phone becuase it was duel core. 1 chip for CDMA and 1 chip for system use. I knew what duel core meant and told him flat out he was incorrect for making this assumption and that the 1 ghz processor in the incredible would be way better than moto's duel core processor. Especially when the chip is half the speed.

I think it's obvious the Incredible is a better spec'd phone, but the rest I think is just personal preference. Stock UI vs Sense UI. Physical Keyboard vs Screen Only. I for one like the heavy, metal feel of the MotoDroid as opposed to the more plasticky feel of the Incredible. But if I was to choose between the two, obviously I'd go for the Incredible.

I asked what smart phones I was eligible to get the promotional off on last month. The sales rep named some crappy phones, made sure I heard droid. I asked what about the HTC Incredible (Before they started the marketing) and he said ya... really confused that anyone heard of it on release day.

I think the shock about this is funny. They have Droids in-stock. They do not have Incredibles in-stock.

When you go to a car dealership, and the guy has a Jeep Liberty on the lot but no Wranglers, do you think he's going to tout the benefits of the Wrangler over the Liberty?

It may not be honest, but it's good salesmanship.

I'm not shocked that they're trying to sell them, I'm shocked that the girl genuinely seemed to think it was a better phone. She even switched away from the free DInc they provide to employees back to the MotoDroid. (Showed me as well)

The feel i get from the vzw employees is that they just don't know anything about the phone. Maybe its just my backward arse town though. :p

I seriously thought about getting the Droid instead of the Incredible because of the buy 1 get 1(my Brother and I got a family plan). I would have had to sacrifice and got the Droid while he would have been rocking the Incredible. Glad I didn't cheap out and both of us got the Incredible. The phone is so badass.

I agree with the signal/bars issue on the Incredible.. I've had my Incredible since initial release and I get an average of 20kbps while on 3g network. basically useless internet speeds. Also when its severely cloudy out the signal drops significantly and even drops calls.

My coworker has the Moto Droid so I did a side by side comparison of signal and internet speed. using *#*#4636#*#* to obtain the signal quality, Incredible was getting -92 dBm, using speedtest.net app speeds were 20kbps down and 600kbps up.
The moto droid has a signal strength of -70 dBm and speedtest was getting 200kbps down and 200kbps up.

I personally work for Verizon and I've done signal tests not only between the incredible and the Droid but also many other phones. if signal is the most important thing to you I recommend a Motorola barrage, honesty.

but if you want a nice and fast phone, get the incredible. the reason a lot of employees say to get the Droid is because there is or at least was a spiff on the Droid, and they have the Droid so that means you'll buy it that day. if you want the incredible then you might try to get it online and then they won't get their $15 or so.

my point is get what you like!

I haven't read any cell phone forums before this one, but I'm noticing a trend. People seem to have this expectation that cell phone company CSRs are technical experts for some reason. What's with that?

Do you think the guy who takes your order at Taco Bell is a professional chef? Is the girl who sold you QuickCrete at Home Depot a civil engineer? Is the kid who sold you your XBOX at Best Buy a computer network engineer?

These people are retail store sales associates. Where does this expectation of professional technical expertise come from? I don't see those kinds of expectations placed on retail employees in any other field.

Wish there was some quality control check on what these Verizon sales people say. Spreading misinformation is pretty bad, part of why I never even walk into my local Verizon shop. I go to this small family operated cellphone store and they had the Incred first time I walked in and even gave me an awesome discount.

109 miles is nothing. Hour and a half and you'll have your incredible in your hands.

Haha, I used to drive that each way every week to my girlfriend's place before she moved in with me.

I don't know why a lot of you all assume I (or whoever) thought the vzw employee was supposed to be some genius. (and apparently dont read anything but the first post) The only issue I really had they were giving false information, and wouldn't listen to me when I said no, with reasons.

I got my DInc. now, so it doesn't matter to me in the least. I posted this thread in a light hearted manner. So I don't really care that much. :)

I think the irritation comes when the CSR *believes* he/she is an expert and offers incorrect or known wrong advices. If they are indeed not in *expert* positions, then rather than possibly lead someone astray, they should explain that they don't know the answer and offer to find out.

I've never understood someone spouting BS instead of just saying "don't know but I can find out" I see this at work, in life and obviously on the internet :)

My post wasn't specifically directed at you or intended to be "ranty" in any way. Just an observation.

It seems like there are several posts a day (not just on here but on other cell phone forums too) that are basically "OMG, CSR said X!".

I just don't understand the surprise people show with these situations.

This post made me chortle. I've talked to many different VzW reps (mainly on the phone, since I have a Solectron/Flextronics discount that makes going into a store useless) and everyone always wished they had my device. They seem to love hearing stories about what it can do, and for the reps that already have Android phones, they love hearing comparisons. Then again, I tend to either talk to tech-savvy guys or semi-tech girls. *shrug*

Maybe I just luck out with the personnel I talk to when I call? *shrug*

Then again, my NCOIC got talked into getting a Droid Eris back when the Dinc first came out because they said "it's just as good as any other phone" (I think the cheap price is what sold him after they said that). When I explained the differences between that, the MotoDroid, the Devour, and my incoming phone, he did research and ended up shipping the phone back without even opening it. Only opened the box to get the shipping labels out of it!

1. As everyone else said, she could very well be trying to get rid of inventory.

2. If she really believes it, so what? Do you really need the whole world to agree that the Inc is the best phone to make you feel confident about your purchase?

wow, sorry that I seemed to have offended your delicate sensibilities. My humblest apologies for such an offending topic.
