Fresh 2.1.2 out

I flashed 2.1.2 today to see what it is like compared to Fresh Toast 2.1 and 2.1.2 is faster and quicker. Added the SU fix, so hope that works. Want to push the OMADM.apk fix from xda that is supposed to fix the PRL issue, but I am confused as to how to push it to /system/app. Anyone care to point out the steps?
As dsavage so graciously pointed out in my previous post, as one way to install apps.
go to folder where you extracted sdk tools. make sure adb.exe is in there. launch command window from that folder (or navi there)

then:
push <location of APK file on your computer> /system/apps/

while phone is connected to pc. about to see now if i can prl update.

anyway, that's what I did to which I got

adb server is out of date. killing...
daemon started successfully
846KB/s <163598 bytes in 0.171s>

The part about being out of date concerned me so I ran twice. So I ran again and got

923 KB/s ,<162598 bytes in 0.171s>

So, it would appear it took. However, I still get the terminated unexpectedly msg. when updating PRL. YMMV... I don't even know what the use of PRL, Profile, and Firmware are; and how meaningful any of 'em are. But I did do the radio update and su fix after installing 2.1.2.

going back to my previous post, I am thinking 'bout getting a Innocell 1750mAh Slim Extended Life Battery just to combat this battery issue I'm having, but have a feeling the difference in mah will be negligible. Anybody else try it yet? The larger 3500 mAh one I'm sure gets a palpable increase, but to the detriment of an ugly turd ergonomic.

I just don't get how we can have such different results. For me, the battery life is worse than 1.5 vanilla, with NO setCPU. I'm lucky if I get 8 hours w/o low battery with relatively light usage; bt, wireless, etc. off; auto brightness;disabled data on maps, no exchange, only gmail sync... no difference between launcher pro or sense.

Hakujin, are you running any sort of application/widget that might be syncing often? I know that when I had Facebook syncing, it drove my battery down like crazy. Same thing with most of the Twitter apps. If so, see if you can configure them to sync/refresh less often, or better yet, on demand. That might help your battery life.

Also, leaving location settings on, and especially GPS on, by default actually might help your battery life. Android will manage the settings for you, only turning things on when necessary and off when not needed. If you force them off, some apps (like weather) will try to do location and keep trying, eating battery.

I think most people recommend leaving location settings turned on, so you might try that too, just as a test.

If it gets too bothersome, try wiping and reflashing 2.1.2 and don't install any apps or change any settings. See how your battery life is with just the core. If it's good that way (and I suspect it will be) then you know that some app/widget/setting is the culprit, so add things one at a time until you find it.

ok, i am using 2.0d. do i do a complete wipe, and flash the 2.1.2?

also, the vanilla lock screens? i am confused cuz on the geefforme website.. he has 6 links to download.. do i need to download and flash all those lock screens?

Yes, wipe/factory reset and davlik before you flash 2.1.2.

I think there are only 4 choices that apply to the vanilla lockscreen. If you want the HTC lockscreen, don't apply any of them.

If you want vanilla, choose 1 of the 4 and apply it.

Personally, I think Option 2 is the best choice, so that you can use alarms, but you still have the world clock if you want it. Just remember not to set the alarm in the HTC clock. I've seen people have quirks with contacts & such if you remove HTC albums & music.

Don't forget to do a Nandroid backup before you flash anything though!

thanks savage.. so with option 2, only use the added alarm, dont use the world clock like i normally do?

You can use it, it will still work fine. Just don't set your alarms from it. After you flash it, you'll have two clocks in your app tray. Use the other (non-HTC) clock to set alarms. With that you'll be able to snooze/turn off the alarms from the lock screen.

Otherwise you'll have to reboot your phone or pull your battery to turn off the alarm.

Nope, no sync except google, and HTC weather (and not even syncing this one atm), but my battery life almost seems slightly worse while running launcher pro so that's not it.

insofar as location settings, I should leave use wireless networks (see location in applications (such as Maps) using Wireless networks? I thought this was an unnecessary hog since GPS makes it redundant, plus it sucks anyway as it almost has a very accurate location.

i've pondered the one by one methodology, but seems almost not worth the effort as battary usage shows that it's predominantly phone idle and standby; tried spare parts but that didn't show much; only [extra] apps I have installed are:

advanced task killer (though relying on autokiller mostly now)
astrid, anystop capitalmetro, astro, barcode scanner, cachecleaner, chess, compass, digg, dolphin browser HD, eBuddy, engadget, facebook, fring, handcent, memory trainer, npr news, pandora, remotedroid, ringdroid, shazam, shopper, spare parts, subsonic, texas hold 'em, toggle screen timeout, twitter, google voice, and where.

i reckon I don't use a few of those so could just uninstall but... if i remember correctly, battery life seemed not all too great even after i first flashed 2.1.2. I think If I flash again, I may have to try another cooked rom, like damagecontrol.

as far as widgets, all I use are htc clock on main home screen, then pandora widget, google search widget, and astrid widget on another, but I really don't use these 3 at all... well, maybe google once in awhile.

still wondering how battery life is w/ that extended 1750mAh seido Hero battery.

so use "desk clock' correct? 'clock' would be the native? confusing that both pull up the same interface, with the bottom toolbar showing deskclock --> world clock --> Alarms --> Stopwatch --> Timer (in that order).

So when one uses Alarms tab, that defaults to non-HTC?

I'm also intersted in knowing this because I am still running HTC homescreen as I wanted to avoid that airplane mode/emergency call bug.

No, desk clock is just a shortcut to a view of the HTC world clock. You'll actually have two applications called "Clock" after you flash option 2.

The second one will be the plain vanilla Google clock. You'll notice the difference as soon as you run it, there's no confusing it with HTC's version. That's the one that you'll set alarms from.

It will make more sense once you flash option 2 and look in your app drawer.

Quick question, (only because I can't seem to find it anywhere)...

Which roms work on the Moment after it's rooted? I want to use Fresh 2.1.2 if possible, but I just really want to know which work for it at the moment, (no pun there...). lol

none of the ROMs you'll find in here work on the Moment. This is the Sprint Hero section. try asking in the Moment section about Moment ROMs.

Is anyone else able to get into the Settings > Applications > Manage Applications?

Every time I try, I get a forceclose. :(

I was getting a FC every time I tried to go into accounts and Sync... as well as every time I tried to open a contact that was linked to Facebook in the people app... Soooooooooo I wiped data and davlik and flashed again..

before I had gone from Fresh 2.0d to Fresh 2.1.1 without wiping..and then from 2.1.1 to 2.1.2 without wiping...

Did you wipe before you flashed?

I had wiped (everything, battery, dalvik, system, rotate) when I first flashed 2.1.1, and I couldn't use the applications options then either. I was hoping that flashing 2.1.2 would be able to override any errors.

I'm going to: C:\android-sdk-windows-tools\ (where the OMADM.apk file is now) and type "push tools\OMADM.apk /system/apps" and I get an error message that "push" is not a recognized internal or external command. Something in the syntax I am typing must be wrong I guess. I have tried it by leaving "tools" out and I get the same error message about the "push" command.

Edit: Heck with it. I'm going back to Fresh Toast 2.1. I didn't have to jump through these hoops to get it to work, more space for apps, and after loading my apps 2.1.2 isn't any faster and maybe a bit slower. Thanks for the help, but Fresh Toast runs stable for me without these patches.

Let me explain why you get that error.

If you have the apk in your tools folder you do not need to specify the path. You do however need to specify the name on both ends. So this is what you would do if the OMADM.apk file is in your /tools folder

adb remount
adb push OMADM.apk /system/apps/OMADM.apk

That should do the trick for you :)

Well that makes sense now! Thanks to you and hakujin. I have already re-flashed Fresh Toast 2.1 (Titanium Backup makes it so easy to try ROMs), but I may try 2.1.2 again this weekend when I have more time.

This is the best thing about rooting. I can try ROMs and go back and forth to get a feel for different ones. Too cool!

i was able to finally get it prl updates on my end now too. trying different radios to find something less batter hungry, though they all seem uniform and pretty poor dbi in my place. 2.32 Verizon radio seems to be getting me further on one charge now though. Might be too presumptuous to say this, but 2.42 latest radio seems to be a power hog. I can only surmise at this point that indeed, the Verizon radio likes to stay on one tower longer.

seems the 2.32 radio + PRL update made a world of difference. Haven't been using my phone much at all today, but unplugged since this morning and still showing six battery bars, though I reckon it's close to sub 50%. What really blows my mind however is my wife's Moment. She's running 2.1 RUU, unplugged this morning as well, and still, I REPEAT STILL showing FULL Battery. :/ She hasn't done a thing on the phone today, but that's still pretty impressive IMO. weirder is that her radio all bumps around between -65dbi and-98dbi. My hero invariably stays at a suck -98dbi (1-2 bars) which has to be part of my battery problem is the weak signal in my home. Strange that I have weak signal when there are two sprint stores very close to me.

Thus, the hunt continues for the best battery life. I think I may ultimately pick up that seido batt.

ouch. sounds nice but no way i could swing that. battery life is at least 20% better w/ different radio, even though signal is the same. plus I'm leaving this place soon. where i'm going is usually 4 bars.

Recurring $5, although insignificant to most, would irritate me. I'm trying to absorb someone else into my family plan which would bring my net monthly total (2 phones) down to $85 for everything data 1500.

yeah the $5 a month is annoying...and personally I feel that if you buy the Airave you should be able to just plug it in and not pay a monthly fee.. BUT.. since I need to have a good cell connection at all times (for work) I'll pay it.. plus I have 3 other phones on my plan and 2 of them belong to teenagers.. I only wish my monthly bill was $85 bucks...
