When I saw the Apple iPad commercial for the first time...................

Step 1:Apple releases device with pre existing features.
Step 2:???????
Step 3:pROFIT

In all seriousness, what really bugs me about the ipad commericals is all the "you already know how to use it"..

I mean really... they advertise the fact that it is so similar to what you already have.. it poses the question.. if its already all of that.. what get what you already have..

That's easy to answer, because bigger means better, to most consumers. So all the folks that never lugged around backpacks, brief cases or diaperbag sized purses, now have a reason to start doing so. Buy an iPad and a few things to protect it from everything else you are lugging around, and you are all set!

And all the folks that have to own all things APPLE or everything that is considered new and improved, will flock to buy them, like they have since the first ipods and iPhones hit the stores.

You mean, there are people out there........ willing to spend about $830 for a 64gig iPad?????

for that price I would expect a 1 TB HDD.

For what its worth flash is still more expensive than a hard drive.. and I doubt 1 tb is that reasonable.

With that said, I actually had a recent discussion which was interesting..

"I hate windows.. cause you have to buy things to protect it from other people"

he was referring to virus's and why he was getting an ipad over anything windows based soo

My response..

"and your just going to put it it in your backpack? your not going to need any extra connectors or anything?"

His response " well I'm gunna buy a case for it to protect it and keep it from getting scratched up and stuff"

So, I responded

"so, aren't you having to buy things to protect it from yourself? just like you would to protect it from other people if it were a pc"

He tried to say "its different" but, never got around to explained how.

Yup yup more than a few people out there will be plunking down to get the 3g 64gig version.

For that kinda money you can buy a case and make a 4 to 5 TB networked raid box or media center the entire house could use..

Windows, protect you tech from other people.

Apple, protect your tech from yourself and your other Apple tech.

I have an Ipad. Don't knock it until you tried it. If I want to just surf the internet, it is perfect, or idle away time in my recliner, it is there. If I want to read a book, similar to a kindle, it is there. Do I think it is over priced, oh yeah. Do I think that it is a usable toy, oh yeah. You just cannot expect it to be more than it is.

When I first heard about it, I have to admit I was hoping it was smaller, or that a smaller model would be offered.. I've always wanted a "pocket computer" that had nothing to do with a phone at all.

Phone web browsing is mejor que nada on the Eris, etc.. but it would sure be nice to have a dedicated computer that fit in my pocket with a screen about.. oh, 6" x 4.5" or so.

Slide out keyboard would be ok.. but on-screen is fine, too.

but as well as ur smart phone? i totally get the small tablet pc thing but i cant see me ever getting one at the rate smartphones are developing.

i think in 5 years people will have small tablet PCs which can make phone calls. Not smartphones which can act like PCs in some ways.

I was playing around with one this weekend. It's 'ok' but there is something about it that just seems 'off'. Honestly, i love the form factor...i think thats one thing that apple is amazing at. The thing that doesn't work though is the OS. It just doesn't feel right on a device like that. I like the OS on the ipod touch / iphone ... but the port to a larger device like the ipad just feels lacking.

most people buy the things they do, especially expensive things, because they want them. No android phone yet I have held and used comes close to the iphone or ipod in user experience. i am willing to bet the ipad is the same, i have played with the ipad but no android tabs yet..feature wise and power wise maybe android hardware beats it, but the ipad is just a reading tablet, it's for media and that is all. it is not supposed to be a pc replacement, yet, but for those who read magazines, newspapers, books or play some games and watch a movie, it's perfect. better than having paper subscriptions to print media all the time, cluttering up the house.

everyone thinks their stuff is revolutionary, apple is no exception. I am sure Google thinks their android os is the cats pajamas, just like ms thinks theirs is best, why wouldn't they? Hell, the hero was advertised as groundbreaking where I am, by my carrier, they want to sell them. What do you want them to say? Buy this out dated under powered phone with 1.5 os android while 2.2 is peeking out right now?

remember when you were a kid, and you saw those commercials on saturday mornings for some GI Joe toy, they made it look like it could pilot it's own helicopter, shoot real bullets, etc? then when you actually got it, it was far from what you were advertised, hey, it's marketing...

It is personal opinion..

Even before I knew what android OS was I hate iphone/ipod os..

Something about it is so ungodly boring... black background and icons displayed for selection.... So dull...

It is your money to spend and you have every right to spend it.. it is all in what your money is worth to you..

I am spending 529$ Up front for a nexus one.. I've been called a fool and people have looked at me stupid a number of times..

When I explain that it is slightly cheaper with more options over a two years... some understand why and are ok..

Others still think I'm stupid and should just get an iphone.

Although it does annoy me they think I'm stupid for paying so much even if it is less than an iphone.

i just watched the ipad video on apples website and was happily watching the usual its magical its a revolution crap and then at the end they have a BALLS to claim this thing is AFFORDABLE :thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking:

how much money do they class as affordable for something that bascially REQUIRES you to have a phone AND a pc ASWELL.

they are just out of touch with reality.

This is Apple we're talking about. They are used to charing people exorbitant amounts of money for outdated hardware...

They would call the Tesla Roadster affordable... Because it's affordable to the people who buy it...

The thing is, the majority of its customers probably believe that it was made my wizards and fairies.

I actually went into the Apple store to see people using the iPads, half of them were jabbing their finger at it, with on screen actions being sort of chaotic as if they had no idea what they were doing, or what they would do with it, but they still had this sort of ecstatic look in their eyes, as if what they held in their hands couldn't possibly exist in real life.

Fair play Steve, you deserve all the money you can get your hands on.
