Help cracked nexus one glass

The screen is not ready for prime time... its fragile and unreliable... broke within 35 days. Simple drop from a few feet off of a coffee table while charging.

Warning to anyone considering the Nexus One... HTC does not stand behind the product, and will charge upwards of $240 to repair broken glass screens.

It's made out of glass and this is common in all glass touch screen phones, nothing new here. Do you expect HTC to repair a device with physical damage for free? No manufacturer ever honors physical damage caused by the consumer and HTC has every right for charging $240 for a out of warranty repair.

BTW my N1 fell from the dashboard of my truck to the concrete and didn't have a single scratch but then again I have a Case-mate Tough Case and a screen protector.

I made the huge mistake of sending my N1 with cracked screen off to Dr. Cell Phone. A week later they sent it back to me with the new screen but it was not installed properly (rubbish was left under the glass) and the buttons and the flash didn't work anymore. They wanted me to pay to ship it back for a second round of repairs and then pay again for them to ship it to me. After threatening a charge dispute they agreed to provide a shipping label for FedEx ground plus complimentary overnight return shipping. Unfortunately, they only sent me the label after 4 days of calling them each day. 3 days after they received it, I still had no updates so I submitted a letter through Google Checkout demanding a response within 36 hours or else I'd submit my charge dispute. Immediately they updated the repair status online to 'Awaiting Parts'. 36 hours later, I called again after submitting the charge dispute and they are claiming that the trackball and flex-cable are broken. (These parts never had problems before sending it to Dr. Cell Phone even after the screen crack and Dr. Cell Phone never documented this in their invoice.) Angelo from Dr. Cell Phone then tried to tell me they had called me at a particular time to tell me this. Since I use google voice, I was able to verify that this was a blatant lie. They are no longer willing to fix it but will only send it back to me (in pieces presumably) if I will once again pay for them to ship it.

If you don't think this is a genuine story, check out why the BBB rated them an F: BBB Review of Dr. Cell Phone in Dallas, TX

Note that prior to my complaint, they had ignored 87.5% of the complaints including 3 improper repairs in just 12 months.

Here is my sad story of how I got my Nexus One on January 7 and it was broken by January 8. I was just hanging out with my Nexus One in my pocket. Pulled it out and the screen looked funny. By the next morning, it was all black. It wasn't until I looked closer in bright light that I noticed several cracks in the internal screen, coming from the edges.

I think this is going to be a big problem for this phone. I've dropped my G1 about 20 times over the past 15 months and it's fine. I've even dunked it in a glass of water, dried it out, and it's fine. I did nothing out of the ordinary to my Nexus One and the screen (inside! with no external damage whatsoever) is cracked and now does not work. This is lousy manufacturing.

I put a call into HTC and they are supposed to be sending me a fedex label to send them the phone, but I didn't tell them the screen is cracked, I just said the screen doesn't work. So I am expecting them to tell me I'll have to pay to replace the screen. The warranty number for HTC is 888-617-1113. By the way it's been 24 hours and I still haven't received the emailed fedex label, so I am growing concerned...

Also, there is a company in Dallas called dr cell phone (google it) which can repair screens the same day they receive your phone, you can just ship it to them. It costs somewhere between $75 and $175 and they said they will repair the Nexus One (they do many other HTC phones). However they told me they are waiting on parts from HTC so it could be 1-2 weeks before they get parts.

I'll try to update when I get this resolved...right now, I am back using my trusty G1, with a great looking brick sitting in a box on my desk.

Happened to my phone. Dropped it on concrete and virtually shattered the glass. Found a phone repair place that charged me $184 to replace the screen. After a few weeks started to notice dust under the screen. A little at first and then more and more would gather. Lucky for me, the power button at the top of the phone stopped working and I returned it to HTC and they sent me a replacement phone under warranty. I was afraid they would notice the damage when I returned it but they didn't say anything so I am ok with my phone now. You simply cannot drop this phone. The screen is glass and glass breaks. Its that simple. You want a phone like this you have to deal with stuff like this. The phone repair center told me that they replace 3 or 4 glass screens a day on IPhones. So not just the N1.

"I think a new screen is about $150".
I bought a new one online for $24.95US.
I love my nexus to much to let it go. Have an Atrix 4G (very nice) but have set up the Nexus for Wi-Fi and VOIP free use. I can't bear to part with it and have dropped it a gijillion times. Finally I went a bridge too far ...

"Remember! RepubliCorp's key constituency is the top 400 taxpayers and the top 1000 corporations. That is why in 40 years they have done nothing for you OR your Nexus One."
