Accessories zagg invisible shield for G1?

if anyone has a Bodygards coupon to share I would love it. I am planning on getting two sets as I have two G1s... I know I could get just one but I don't fully trust myself with the install and like the idea of having one on site instead of waiting for the replacement to come if there is ever a need to replace.

A friend of mine has a cover from Zagg on his LG dare. It looks dirty, scratched up, and permanently smudged. I've been hesitant on getting one for my G1 as it looks to be more of an eyesore than a safeguard. Can anyone attest? I'm sure it does a great job of protecting the screen, but I don't want to sacrifice looks for function at this point.

^^^^ If done properly and the phone perfectly clean before you apply you will have a clear cover. I will admit my iPhone corners were turning a dingy yellow from going in and out of my holster but it was a bestskinsever brand... my Nokia N95 is wrapped in Invisible Shield and it is perfect after almost a year... and it is carried 100% of the time in a holster (unless I am talking on it obviously)... I say get one and you won't regret it.

Good find.. I have had 2 of their skins on my iPhone and my only complaint is they do the edges different than any other company and they tend to lift over time. Also, my N95 is done in Invisible Shield and it is 100% clear and fine after almost a year... even with it being inserted into a holster all the time. The iPhone with Best Skins Ever started turning yellow just after a few months time. I have contacted them about it and they could care less... no warranty support and not attempt to replace it for me. Just my insight from my experiences

I bought the invisible shield for my G1. Installation was a bear, requiring almost two hours from start to finish. The resulting look makes an already cheap looking phone look cheaper. The worst part of installation was getting the flaps and corners to stay down. After wrestling with it for about an hour I finally gave up on the two corners you can see in the pictures... those will just have air bubbles. The screen looks better than my factory cover (because I had dust under it), but there are some imperfections that don't appear to be bubbles, but rather imperfections in the film itself (possibly created during installation). As far as usability, the film is okay. The screen is 'tackyer' than before, which theoretically is bad on a touchscreen, but really it's not that bad. The Menu button is harder to push because of the surrounding film. The trackball is a little bit less easy (the film takes up some of the distance between the top of the ball and the chin of the phone). The USB port cover bends the film up a bit when you remove it.

All and all I'd say:
looks: 3/5
installation 2/5
durability: X/5 (i haven't had it long enough to say either way)
value for money 2/5 (15 dollars is a lot of money)

Here are the pictures of the phone with the film on it.

I've just installed my full body invisible shield and i am extremely happy how it turned out, no dust under the shield. I wish I had a camera to show the pics, but it looks amazing.

no air bubbles at all...

Took about 20 min to install!!!

I did it different this time around after reading so many tips online.

I pretty much emptied my solution bottle into a bowl, and filled the bowl up with water. Stirred with my finger, then I ran the shower in the bathroom to let it steam up a little. I immediately began applying the shield, totally dipping each piece in the water/solution dripping wet and placed each piece on the device and squeegeed out any liquid, it was so fast and easy cause the pieces slid right into place cause they were dripping wet. And also keep your hands soaking wet.

I wish i can show you guys but my only camera is my old iphone camera and you cant really see the details of the shield.

oh well hope my post helps somebody

That is a fantastic tip! I wish I had read it last night before applying mine. It was an epic battle of man vs plastic for over an hour.

I gave up at one point, as I figured being frustrated isn't the best state of mind to be in for an operation of that magnitude. The parts which I did successfully apply came out very nice and clean, no dust or anything under them though.

The screen cover came out perfect, and I am glad because that was the part I was worried about the most. I will try finishing it this weekend with your tip in mind.

Early last week I visited a local installer as referred from the zagg website. They were pretty busy so it took three hours to get the phone back. 40 minutes quoted before I purchased, "come back in an hour" when I paid... 1:15 later they were only half done. 3 hours later my wife thought I was dead in a ditch somewhere and I finally got my phone back.

It looked great overall at first but the next day I noticed that in the upper left corner (near the camera) the shield was bubbling up at the corner and would not stay down. Being a good customer I continued to not even use the phone for the next 48 hours as they recommended, but the bubble did not go away. So yesterday (saturday) I dropped the phone off to have the backpiece replaced. I noticed that the replacement piece is actually a different design than the first one. Whereas the original corners had two flaps that (almost) met in the middle, the new one has a single flap that comes over from one side to cover the corner. Overall I'm happy with the shield, but it seems as if the cut on this newer version (newer to me, maybe its an older design) isn't as precise as the original I had. The first one fit around the camera and speaker much more closely and didnt have a V-shaped notch on the side near the SD hatch, where the phone body curves up. I'd say there's still room for improvement on the fitment of this product. For $55 (including install) and two trips to the shop, I'd expect more.

For those looking to buy, I'd suggest buying it online and installing it yourself. Its still a worthwhile product, but the price at retail is a bit much. Depending on how much you value your time, installing it yourself may or may not be worth the savings.

I've purchased several invisible shields for various devices over the years. Let me say first that they are very durable and protect screens very well. I used to do the key test all the time for my friends (striking key against the screen and scratching).

Applying them is definitely an art and takes steady hands and patience. If you try too hard to scrape out all the bubbles or don't use enough solution you can end up with a less than perfect installation. Also, pay very close attention to the positioning. Once it starts to dry it will stick very firmly.

For the G1 I pretty much decided on just the screen shield instead of the full body. The full body will make it look glossy instead of matte black which IMHO would look silly.

The one piece of feedback I'd really like to get is how the shield affects the touch screen. None of the devices I've applied it to have a touch screen (cameras, Ipod nano, GPS, Motorola Q, Razr, etc.)

So if someone who has had it installed for a while can comment on the impact it's had on your ability to push on screen buttons or scroll it would be great.

Thanks!

i got my Best Skins Ever skin and installed it. I've had it on for a week now and its working just fine. You need patience and steady hands to install it but it is not necessarily difficult. I would say it takes about an hour. the phone looks really nice with a glossy black look. I thought it wouldnt look as nice but it almost looks nicer and more elegant. reminds me of the shiny HTC Diamond Touch. Touch screen performance is just fine. I had no problem unlocking my phone using the pattern unlock and a light finger. its not as responsive as if the screen were bare but pretty darn close. i will post pics hopefully today if not tomorrow.
