Samsung is announcing new Android devices - has this become the garbage OS?

Samsung is announcing new Android devices almost on a daily basis. Do you think they plan to support any of them, or just ship them with an Android stamp, like it's a good thing?

I personally don't understand why they make so many phones, all manufactures. Why don't they stick with a couple, improve them, support them etc...They can't support them because they build 50/11 of them.

Sure if you think about it you can understand. It is shortsighted on their part but by releasing new devices they make $. They can't make any money by supporting tose phones that are already released and paid for. The only way we can send the message is by boycotting Samsung products. I for one will never buy another Samsung product after the stress and phonecalls this has caused me.

I honestly think T-mobile is planning on dropping Samsung.

Samsung has mad most of T-mobile's lower end phones for a few years now but T-mobile just signed a deal with LG and look at what they are making......... a gang of lower end phones.

The LG Sentio is basically a Samsung Highlight for example.

TMO is in the same boat as Samsung. They have even less interest than Samsung to update those phones. But where is Google in all this? Is that the vision they had for their OS? Is that what Chrome OS will be like too? You buy an appliance and expect no updates?

Actually TMO has ALOT on interest in keeping there phones up to date, certainly more than Samsung does. TMO does NOT want to get a reputation for now updating there phones. Less than a week before this thing exploded, Tmobile made a big point of announcing that nearly all there phones will getting 2.1 (whoopsy).

Remember, cell companies are SERVICE businesses. Besides, they don't want people getting updates constantly. They make a lot of money if you don't run out and get a new phone the second your able to upgrade.

Edit: Also, TMO doesn't have to develop updates. They just need to test and release them.

I have to disagree with you. If TMO cared so much about their customers, why isn't the Behold 2 getting updated to 2.1? There is no technical reason, it's just a marketing decision, and TMO is involved in that decision, since the Behold 2 was made specifically for them.

My take on this is the updates issue is going to slow down once the gingerbread android arrives seeing as googles plan for updates after that will be yearly then we all could be on the same page.

I cancelled t-mo today, and honestly could give a shit less about paying the 200. I got the evo 4g and gotta say, it's a badass muthaf***ing phone! Couldn't be happier.

There *IS* a technical reason:

Samsung hasn't made an update.

T-Mobile doesn't build hardware. T-Mobile doesn't write software. T-Mobile can ask, plead, and even threaten to drop Samsung, but they can't *MAKE* Samsung write the software for the phone that Samsung made.

T-Mobile is, essentially, in the same boat as BH_Man/Eugene when it comes to updating the B2: If there's nothing to update *WITH*, there's no update.

At this time, Samsung has no drivers for 2.x. They've not bothered to make them. So yes, while BH_Man/Eugene can hack together a very simple 2.1 for the Behold II, it will NOT be, IN HIS OWN WORDS, a Day to Day ROM for the phone.

T-Mobile is no different. They can't magically design drivers for hardware they have no technical access to. Especially since they don't employee developers for other companies' hardware.

If it were that easy, we'd already be running BH_Man 2.1 Everlasting Gobstopper Edition.

an all-important factor is sales . . . they wait for the numbers to arrive,
and decisions regarding support and development are made in stages
according to the number of units sold per month or quarter.

the behold II has not sold well, did not catch on fast enough, and has
zero chance of recovering lost time, so OS development is very limited
because their labor investment is more efficiently spent on the future.

And that is why I loathe SamSUCK, now and forever . . . because their
business ethos is naked profit for reasons that may be complex, that
may reflect current economic difficulties, etc., but which I simply refuse
to sympathize with.

Plain & simple!!!!!!!!

TMO Does not Write the Update's, Samsung Does!!!

Google is Not going to Stop innovating because some Companies Can't catch up in the Google Platform!!! it's not Winmo!!

It is the Phone Manufacturers that Must supply the Updates!! TMO Pressure them into it, but at the end of the day, if Samsung feel they would lose more money than it's worth, there not going to do anything!

A. Google Isn't going to Stop just because Some are still using 1.5
B. Providers Push the Update's when Ready, But depends on the Makers!!
C. Not sure why it's this hard for you to understand? Unless you're just wanting to argue with everyone that has a Different opinion?

T-mo gave you a Mytouch 3G Slide free right? They gave me a Cliq free.

Both of those phones retail for $400 each.

They swapped out BH_MAN's Behold II for a MT3GS but they won't make any money off of his Behold II it will just go back to Samsung, be refurbished, and be sent to someone else as an exchange.

That's just off of the top of my head from people in here.

Hell, I alone have had 4 refurbished Highlights, a new Behold II, 3 refurbished Behold II, and a new Cliq sent to me all because my Highlight I spent $20 on at Walmart 6 months ago (after I broke my G1) kept having issues with the screen no longer working. How much has T-mo lost on those transactions?

If Samsung is not profitable to Tmo they might as well drop them now that they have LG making the same type of handsets.

When you get your 3rd and 4th Android device, be it phone, or tablet, or whatever, and you realize that the manufacturer provides zero updates, would you continue to buy Android devices?
I said in the title of the thread that Samsung is announcing new Android devices every day. How many of these devices do you think will be kept up to date by Samsung?
They say that Android has geek appeal. I believe that anyone that reads this site is a geek (at least to some extent), and probably has some clout among his/her friends when it comes to purchasing technology. But if geeks like us end up feeling that Android is not properly supported by the manufacturers, who will recommend buying it?

@mwl1119 Samsung is currently the biggest phone manufacturer, by number of units produced and sold, in the US. I don't like it any more than you but it's true. Samsung is not going anywhere. We can't think about the cell phone market in the US stricktly in terms of android there are far more feature phones then smart phones. Tmo will merge with another carrier before they ever drop samsung!

Samsung market share 11.91% in North America - United states (May 2010)

I find it interesting that Samsung's market share dropped precipitously 3 weeks ago. Probably unrelated but it makes me happy none the less.

I see your point, but you have to understand it's based on either

a. The Hardware just can't support it.
b. the Manufacturers are just being lazy & don't want to support there Product.
