Help Car Mode...Anyone found it?

Hey folks, cant seem to find any other threads about this but has anyone found car mode or how to activate it?? I was sure I heard them say it would have car mode like the droid. I have a universal car dock Id like to use till the custom one comes out

get the GOOGLE Maps navigation app.
start that app... and the first screen is the car mode for it.

that is the only one I know of.

Maybe when the come out with a real EVO car dock.. once you plug it in to that... there might be another "car mode", that will a pop up.

If im not mistaken on the Incredible it was called a dash board and it was an icon on the home screen with the rest of the apps. It looks like a little car instrument cluster just touch on that.

So are you saying I can use the NAV on a car screen? If so I want to get an HDMI to RCA and pop that bad boy in my g35... WOOT!

No sorry, not to a car screen. Although that may be possible. I'm referring to the mode that puts large icons across the screen while in a car dock, the gMaps one doesnt like landscape it seems. Dashboard icon is what I'm probably referring to but I guess it isn't on the EVO after all. Maybe an update or something...who knows.

The Moto Droid has an app called "Car Home" that is much easier to use one handed. I can't find it on my Evo either.

There are a few 3rd party apps in the market that look like they may be worth a try (all free). The top one seems to be Car Dock v2.

You mean this:

To get this you need to plug in a USB OTG cable (that is, a micro USB cable with pin 5 grounded). You can get them here: USB Host OTG Cable for Toshiba TG01 adaptor converter - eBay (item 260614124528 end time Jun-10-10 15:15:27 PDT)

HTC seems to use this fifth pin as a key to kick this off (which also makes me think that they disable the true OSBOTG functionality which really pisses me off, but that's another thread).

It's actually the "Navigator" app, not the "Navigation". The Navigator app once opened has six selections: Footprints, Navigation, Voice Search, View Map, Search and Make a Call. They're large icons designed for use while driving.

Yep... Navigator is what I am showing in the image... I figured it was just running an application but didn't know which one... now when I get my USB host stuff working, I'll just rename it "navigation" and it will come up, automatically!

Sorry, i guess i should have clarified a little more, I have tried the navigator app and this is pretty much what im looking for. The only issue I have w it is that it seems to refuse to rotate to landscape which is how id like to use it. I know when they had the announcement w the prince of Persia launch there were photos of evo in a car dock in landscape w the large icons. I guess ill just have to wait and see what happens when they release the official evo dock, as it may be an update or specific interface w their product...oh well.

If you look at pictures of the HD2 in it's car dock it has the almost same Navigator screen as the EVO but in landscape. Might be a flaw when HTC rewrote the code from WM to Android or might only work in landscape when in the car dock.

Is there a way to disable this mode when using a USB OTG cable? I would rather it just charge normally and not go into any special mode. It changes the functionality of the HOME button which is annoying.

Car mode can be configured as follows: Go to +> shortcuts>Settings>Car Dock and you should see the options, including Auto Launch. I'm using a desire with froyo,had trouble with it keep going into car mode of it's own accord,very annoying phantom feature!

My charging cable glitched once and kicked me into car mode on my HTC Desire Z. When I discovered that it gives me a dial pad when in landscape mode (which it doesn't natively have) I was sold, but couldn't figure out how to reactivate it again. =) When I tried the "Car Dock" app built in, it just brought up one option, launching, which was set to "automatic" and was grayed out.

Anyway, I discovered there's an app on the market called 'Car Mode Control' by 'IG88 Apps' that is a simple toggle that forces my phone into car mode. It works beautifully.

It's in the app drawer under "Car Panel".
