Very disappointed with OTA 2.1

If you are in a zone with terrible coverage (ie I never get less than -98 dBms where I live), your battery will drop like crazy versus being in a good signal (-65-80 dBms). When I was still living at college, I was always in the good signal range and was consistently getting 30-36 hours to a battery charge no matter which OS I was on, but now that I'm home for the summer and in the terrible signal zone, I get maybe 16-24 and that's on a good day.

Can you look under the battery cover at the bottom right-hand corner and check for a number? It's black on black, so you have to get the light just right to see it.

I have XC05 091010

This might be a hardware date. I get a silent bug all the time on my phone, and I'm getting ready to go replace it at Verizon. It seems that hardware dates (if that's what this is) of 100222 don't have some of the problems that earlier models have with OTA 2.1.

Just a hunch.

You have to create an ignore list. Once you place certain programs on the
menupop.gif
ignore list, they will not open unless you chose to open them.

Hey, how do you create an ignore list?

Hey, how do you create an ignore list?

Using the Advanced Task Killer?

When you open it and a program is running that you dont want to run, just "dwell click" or touch and hold the program in the list that you want to ignore. After about a second, a menu will appear that will have the following options:

-Kill
-Select/Unselect
-Switch to
-Ignore
-Detail

If you select ignore, the program will be added to the ignore list. You can acces this list by going back to the main screen of Advanced Task Killer and hitting Menu > Ignore list. You will see all programs currently in the ignore list.

I use it for the MP3 store, the twitter program, and a few other things. They never open unless I specifically do so.

Speak to me of "startup managers", "start auditor" or other such programs that allegedly display programs autorunning in the background, and programs running at start up that can be pulled out of startup.

Checking several such programs in market, but they all seem to have very mixed reviews.

I just want to be able to manage what programs start at boot. I've lost all faith in APK based upon what everyone is saying.

I thought I would give an update.

I was finally able to locate the ADW Launcher - although it came from a link on the board instead of through the Market.

I used one of the posts here about ADW Launcher to customize the setup and so far I have been very pleased. I installed the Launcher with about 80% of the battery charged. I messed with the settings, created a few short cuts and just got accustomed to the layout and played around as I normally would with the phone. I installed on Sunday afternoon and I have not had to reboot the phone yet - I did accidentally let the battery die late Monday night. The camera has not locked up either and the very few calls I have had using my Bluetooth have not messed up the phone either. The one and only issue I had was I was trying to use the camera to take a picture to email directly with Gmail and for some reason the message itself wouldn't go through. The Gmail wasn't syncing properly. Once I cleared the Gmail Storage out everything was fine.

I am really starting to think my issue was memory management. All day long the phone is responsive and apps come and I haven't had the sudden urge to throw the phone to the ground and crush it. Without ADW it seemed to get sluggish as the day went on (with and without task managers).

I still do not have all of my apps back on, I still need to add a couple of apps: Weather Channel and Advance Task Killer (which I may not put back on, unless I try to disable some of the Auto Start apps ie Amazon MP3). As of this instant I am very happy to have my Eris back to normal.

Thanks for the suggestion and advice you guys provided -

Mike
