Iphone 4 announced, I still rather the incredible

I say that if someone likes their iPhone and AT&T, then tell them congratulations. Enjoy.

I've spent many hours on both, and I like the Incredible. They can add the additional features to the iPhone, and that's nice, but it's not the feature set that I want.

Just so long as everyone is happy with what they have, then I'm fine with it.

no, you have to pick a side. And then bash the side you don't pick. Even if they release a good product, you have to say it sucks. And you must convince everyone who owns the other product that they made the wrong choice. :D

I like Apple, I would get the iPhone if it wasn't on ATT. Just got rid of mine because ATT sucks. So when it comes to Verizon (if it does), I;ll be first in line. Until then, I love my DINC too.

I'm not going to bicker with you for everyone's sake, but we all know that's not true.

why? i had a 3gs and the battery lasted 2x as long as my DINC. Even lasted longer than my DINC with 1750 battery. Mainly because with the 3gs you can only have one app open at a time which preserves battery. I personally like multi-tasking and shorter batter life over that though

Nice to see Apple playing catch up. I had a look at the big features they touted at the release and none of them seem more compelling than the ones my Incredible (which should be fresh off the assembly line by now...slowly making its way to a FedEx box) offers.

Cameras - 5MP camera in the back - OK thats nice, nothing special. I've seen shots from both, and I think the Incredible takes better pictures. Plus you can focus on certain spots by touching the spot you want. Flash? Cool. I have 2. Front camera? You can use it for self portraits, but who wants a VGA size portrait of themselves? 13 year old girls have been turning cameras around and taking pictures of themselves for years. iMovie for iPhone? That would suck. I don't want to edit a movie on my phone. If I'm actually making something worth editing, I'll do it on my computer where i can see better and work faster. HD video? One of like three iPhone 4 features that I actually will miss on the Inc.

FaceTime - This doesn't seem desirable. You either have to hold the phone way up in front of your face, or the other person looks up your nostrils. Think about the way you hold your phone when you use it. If you're standing up, you're usually holding it by your belt buckle. Why would I want someone I'm video chatting to get the view my girlfriend gets of me when we're alone? I'd hold my arm up and that gets old quick (lazy? yes.). Plus that probably kills battery like nothing else. If I actually want to video chat, I'll want to be doing something else in the background. When I Skype people from my computer, I'm always looking at other stuff in the background. It's just like regular phone calls. When you can't work on something or look up something in the background during the call, it kinda blows.

"Retina Screen": Okay, that's cool. I don't think it'll be that noticible over the Incredible. I did some math, we've got about 250 pixels/inch. Sounds cool, but the "retina screen" isn't that much better that the Incredible's... nothing too special.

iBookstore - not interested. I don't read books anyway. Is anyone else getting sick of the iShit? iAds, iOS4, iBooks, iPod, iPad, iPhone, iMovie, iPhoto, iLife, iWork, iTunes, iMsickofstuffbeingnamedthisway. It was great for a while, when it was just the iPod and the iPhone, but now it's gone too far. Product names are cool. My phone is(will be eventually) called the Incredible. There's the Mustang. The Camaro. The Corvette. All of those names are better than iPhone. Like who would buy an iCar?

Multitasking? I like the implementation better, with the dock you can switch apps from, but this almost levels the playing field with Android. It's not quite as good because only certain apps can run in the background.

Home Screen - Oh boy, wallpapers and folders. We've had that for a while, along with widgets and live wallpapers.

Search - Not as good (I don't think?). I know the search button on the Incredible will search Google, but will it also search the phone? That would be a nice feature.

Battery - Apple claims that it lasts a really long time, but Apple's claims are always BS. Plus, the Incredible can probably match the real life performance of the iPhone with an extended battery. And then you can swap batteries and keep on going.

Maps & Compass - Free navigation on the Incredible. Enough said.

Processor - Advantage Incredible.

2 Mics - This could help. I feel like it wouldn't do much for me, because I usually have a hat on, and my hair is down to my ears and it's pretty thick. Plus, what if it's windy and that mic picks up wind interference? I don't want it to try to cancel the sound from that. I've never had a problem hearing people on the phone before, so I don't think this is necessary. If you're somewhere that you actually can't hear the person you're talking to, you're probably not in an appropriate place to make a call. And noise cancellation won't help at a concert. What would be better is cancellation of ambient noise around you for the sounds you transmit, so people won't be able to hear it if you're driving or something. From what i've read, it doesn't appear that the iPhone does this.

Design - The only thing I prefer about the iPhone's design is its dedicated silent mode button. But I really hate the whole way that the iPhone OS handles sound anyway - ringer volume and music volume should be separate. You don't need that many steps for ringer volume, and you usually want the ringer to be at least as loud as the music you're playing. Anyway, design. The new iPhone is ugly. I don't like the completely flat back, or the stainless band that goes around the phone. The buttons look stupid now too. Same with the white face. There'll be at least a 10:1 ratio of black to white iPhones sold. But the whole phone looks kinda stupid. Also, it's 2mm thinner than the Incredible. It's also about two mm thicker than my iTouch. I don't like the iTouch without a case because it feels TOO thin. Just my personal preference I guess.

The Apps argument for the iPhone is dying slowly. It has more apps than Android, but I can't find something that there is no app for on Android, but one for the iPhone. Just because the Android Marketplace doesn't have 200 different bowling applications doesn't mean it's worse. I do wish Google would moderate the apps.

And wow that was long. Just kinda kept going maybe some of you will actually read this haha. Just my thoughts after reading the WWDC notes.

Here's the long and short of it:

The iPhone 4 is better than the 3GS. In some ways (screen resolution, forward-facing camera, battery life) it's better than the Incredible. In other ways it is worse (closed marketplace, no background apps, no Google Voice integration, not on Verizon).

I think Steve Jobs made an interesting comment with the fact that Apple "wasn't the first to have cut & paste, but we are the best" when it came out with the iOS 3. It made me realize that everything we're going to compare is going to be outdone in a generation by both sides anyway, so there's no sense in getting too high-and-mighty on any 1 feature. For example: I'd really like a forward-facing camera, but I also really want Verizon. I can't have both right now, so I'm going with the later. But likely I'll get both in the not-too-distant future. It's just that: each iteration I have to decide which set of features I consider more important to me. My girlfriend, who prefers the "easier software" the iPhone offers, would go with the iPhone... if it were on Verizon. Instead she's now sporting an LG EnV Touch, even at the cost of an unlimited 3G connection. The point is: we pick which features are most important and buy based on that while we wait for the "nice-to-haves."

Typically the best hardware device will be the newest one. That's why the Droid is typically considered less impressive than the Nexus One, and the Nexus One less than the Incredible. But then the Incredible looks at the iPhone 4 and the Evo and it lacks some features too.

Ultimately the competition is great for us, the consumers, because it forces Apple (and Google/HTC/Motorola) to start responding to the demand which a monopoly could afford to ignore. If we care enough about Flash, sooner or later Apple will HAVE to implement it. If we care enough about forward-facing cameras, all future phones will have them. (With it going into the iPhone 4, I think the standard has been set.)

If the iPhone 4 were coming to Verizon, I'd have a very tough time deciding. But with Google Voice support, the ability to play AVIs unconverted, Nintendo emulation and easy file navigation on my Incredible, it certainly still exceeds even the newest Apple offering in some of the regards most important to me.

Just my 2 cents.

I had the iPhone for a bit until I dropped it and broke it, I then switched back to Verizon. Verizon has always been the better network but while i never experienced dropped calls on my iPhone the Dinc has dropped several, which is seriously nuts considering Verizon is the best network for coverage in my area. Not going to switch again but am a bit disappointed in the reception of this phone.

As far as battery life, if it's such a concern, change your battery on the Incredible, problem solved.

Look, I've been a big Apple fan and user for quite awhile, and I am so glad I have my Incredible and Android. To me the new Iphone and OS looks the same, and very limited and boring. I definitely prefer the sexiness and look of my Incredible.

Apple is just becoming too closed and almost militaristic in their product approach in my opinion. I feel so free and unlimited with my Android phone, and have zero interest in the iphone anymore because of this.

So Android fans rejoice, you made a smart decision, your phones are badass!!

By the way, this is an Android Forum, so lets not wallow too long in the release of the same old iphone and let's get back to our INCREDIBLE phone!!

And if you see something that you like in the new iphone, good for you, it's not a bad phone, switch networks and enjoy. I just don't see it myself, no biggie, just my opinion....peace....and long live Android and Verizon!!

OH YOU GUYS.

Anyways. I'm excited. Not because of the iphone4, but because its going to make HTC hustle to catch up on the hardware front, and Google on the software front (in order to shout over all the noise this iPhone Mania is going to make). Gingerbread is going to be something to look forward to :)

Ok, my bad on calling 4g as a capability...I must be sleep deprived. Anyway, a lot of these comments are unsupported. The new iPhone is good...comparable or even better than the incredible spec for spec. Sure, there are trade-offs from one phone to the other but really, you can't bash the new iphone. It's solid all around from the paper spec.

Although, real world reliability and performance is a difference story...but as of right now, the specs on the phone is nothing to laugh at. Also, just remember...there *are* also HTC/Android fanboys too ;)

I have both a 3GS and just returned in my Inc after 3 weeks of use. Sorry, the Inc as good as a device it is, doesn't have close to the battery life as a 3GS, maybe half on a light day.

Sorry, you're simply factually wrong on a lot of points there starting with the camera. A backlit small sensor camera is the way everyone will eventually go, it takes far better photos and the smaller the sensor, the greater the benefit...

Please stop trying to fight with everyone or you will be reported.

Last warning.
