Later on he proceeded to blame the press for it (even though at least one of them wasn't even using their WiFi, he had an Evo 4G with him and was using the Mobile Hotspot feature, :)

He said in the speech that there were over 500 wireless networks accessible from the podium, presumably from all the journalists there using their own mobile hotspots.

People tend to forget that would kill any demo that requires WIFI.
There are like 11-22 channels and if there are 500 SSIDs broadcasting, it will cause those problem. Still funny though like Ballmer falling on his feet or some president getting his face thrown with a pie. This technical truth will be drowned out by the laughs and people will use it for their own agenda.

That isn't technical truth - it is bad software and setup. They should have pre-setup with a wifi passworded and picked as the primary for the phone before the event. If the 3GS can pick and hold one signal there is absolutely no reason the 4G shouldn't be able to

Wrong.

There are a limited number of broadcast channels available for 802.11 b/g/n

Steve said there were over 500 wifi routers transmitting in the audience.

Not wifi receiver cards, ROUTERS.

even assuming an even distribution, thats 41 routers broadcasting on each channel(12 channels)

Thats a MASSIVE amount of interference.

That means that the iPhone's were competing with dozens, if not hundreds of wifi routers.

By wifi router, i mean devices like Verizon Mi-fi's, Sprint Hotspot, Palm Pre/Pixi with hotspot, Sprint Evo with wifi hotspot and any other Android 2.2 devices broadcasting.

I'm surprised anyone was able to get a stable connection in that room.

Actually no, watch it again. He said there were about 100 mifi's

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

ok, even assuming 100, thats still nearly 10 per channel assuming even distribution, all packed in a very small area. My previous statements apply.

You do realize that was just a number he made up right?

You do realize he didn't actually count them, and no one actually counted them... right?

You do realize that he was just guessing at what the cause was, and hoping that would solve the problem... right?

And, of course, that WOULDN'T BE A FAILING OF THE PHONE.
