No built-in stylus pen, sucks!

I thought this thread was going to be a joke when I clicked on it. Why the heck would you want a freakin' stylus?

I thought the same thing. My old HTC Touch Diamond had a stylus because the screen was so annoyingly small. It was the only way you could hit the right button! It was totally embarrassing pulling that little pen out of the phone. The only good thing about the Touch Diamond+Stylus was that it made me appreciate my Evo even more.

Funny bunch up here, I guess the EVO must be the very first fancy phone with touchscreen anyone ever used in this place, hence the inexperience with using a stylus pen to keep your screen clean when browsing or TM.

I'll just find a good anti-fingerprint screen protector and forget about using a stylus pen with this phone since the screen won't work except when using fingers, no big deal, I don't have fat fingers.

Nope. I started with the Palm III with the green screen, stylus, and star trek type flip cover. Had almost every treo they ever made after that. Eventually you realize times have changed, and a stylus really isn't of much use

AFAIK, the only way to navigate a capacitive screen in cold weather without taking your gloves off is to either have a gloves with capacitive tips (I've seen em on ski gloves) or a capacitive stylus.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Would an

anti-fingerprint screen protector negatively affect the EVO's screen responsiveness?

the responsiveness is unaffected by an anti glare screen, but they make your screen look "fuzzy" since they have a matte surface. They also make fingerprints harder to clean because the oils from your fingers stay in the "low points" of the textured surface.

I had an anti glare screen on since Friday and I couldn't take it anymore so i switched to a crystal clear protector yesterday.

I found this Capacitive Stylus over at ThinkGeek, looks like it might be a good match for ya: ThinkGeek :: Pogo Sketch iPhone/MacBook Stylus

It might be "designed" for the iPhone and whatnot, but it works the same way on any capacitive screen. And yes, the "sausage stylus" is serious, those wacky Japanese figured that one out. ;)

Edited to Add: Oh, hey, that's exactly what dandm4life posted. I should'a clicked his link before suggesting. :)

Theres a very good reason for a stylus. I don't know if ya'll ever played isketch on your computer, but they released a version for android (sketch online beta)

It's a multiplayer game. You are given a word and you have to draw it and the other people have to guess what it is. You get points if you guess right or your picture is accurate enough to where someone can guess it. I tried playing on my Hero and drawing anything with your fingers was total fail and basically unplayable. I want to get a stylus so I can actually play this game because its a lot of fun and input accuracy is important

C'mon guys. There's tons of practical applications for a stylus. Drawing, scribbling down quick notes, certain games and apps.

Even on my Touch Pro I didn't use my stylus for everyday use, and I'll be using one far less on my Evo, but I'll still keep one around for those rare occasions that I know I'll need one.

Of course fingerprints on a capacitive screen isn't an argument for a stylus, the technology was designed from the start to be used with the finger. Doesn't mean that's all you'll ever need though.

A capacitive touchscreen will not respond to a standard stylus you will find on phones w/ resistive touchscreens. Capacitive touchscreens uses the electrical signal to work just like a magnet to metal filings. I have done some experiment on my Hero on how to get a stylus to work. My findings basically show that we need a magnetic-type stylus (of course with a protective rubber cover for the tip) for it to work. I've done this with a magnetic phillip head screwdriver. Worked fine. I just don't see a uses for a stylus with pinch-to-zoom and double tapping.
