App to paste frequently used words?

I'm looking for an app that I can configure with a list of words which I can later select via press and hold and be able to select which word I want to paste/type. I was hoping one of the add-on keyboard or clipboard apps would provide this feature but I haven't had any luck finding anything. I have a big email address and password and would love to keep them in a permanent clipboard of some sort. The clipboard apps I've tried kind of fit the bill but switching to that app for the purposes of making a selection disrupted the flow of things. Press and hold would be best.

Can anyone suggest an app that would accomplish this?

I've been also looking for a way to remove the stupid arrow keys at the bottom of my HTC Evo's keyboard. I tried better keyboard from the market but I'm having issues getting used to those keys. The letters seem smaller or something.

What's inserty supposed to do? Didn't do anything for me.

Inserty does pretty much exactly what you asked for. It inserts predetermined text into any text field.

When you run Inserty from the apps list, it just shows the current definitions (it comes with several). Tap the menu key to add your own, or press and hold any of the preconfigured definitions to edit it.

Inserty is used like an alternate keyboard. To invoke it, just press and hold in the text field where you want to insert your text. In the pop-up menu select "Input method", then select Inserty and your list of definitions will display. Tap the one you want and it's inserted. (Note - If you're inserting into a multi-line text field, like a notepad app, you may need to use the trackball to scroll to your desired insertion point before calling up Inserty.) After inserting your text, Inserty then immediately prompts you to return to the Android keyboard (or whatever alternate keyboard you're using). Simple.

It kind of defeats the purpose to constantly have to select and change your input method. May as well just type out the words. I could see how this would be useful for large sentences but I need something that will simply remember a few email addresses and passwords that I often have to input into various forms online.

Hmm, utility is a personal thing. I find Inserty useful, but I can see where others might find it too cumbersome. It certainly isn't as easy the shortcuts I used to be able to use on my Palm.

You might want to consider a replacement keyboard that does autotext replacement, like Smart Keyboard Pro. I don't use it myself, but I understand you can do things like type "sig" and it replaces it with your signature lines. You can search the forums for other autotext replacment apps.

This is good advice.

The problem is that you can't "layer" input apps over one another; you can only use the features of any one input app at a given time. So you will have to choose wisely, or deal with having to switch around all the time. :eek:

Incidentally, the old PalmOS did have a built-in phrase-replacement feature, sort of how the Android user dictionary works. Maybe, if we're lucky, this will be implemented in a future version of Android.
