You have to hand it to Apple, they build some beautiful hardware. Now if only HTC could get to building phones with similar attention to detail. I love Sprint, and Love my EVO, but I must say that I would much prefer to have an EVO that is 9.3 mm thick made of two pieces of glass and stainless steel than the plastic that I have now.
No offense, but after owning an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 3GS, I can say your choice seems flawed to me. Apple likes making very shiny, pretty hardware, which looks absolutely amazing in trade shows, but unfortunately aren't practical in real life.
Case in point, I HAD to have a case with my iPhone. No ands ifs or buts about it. The backs of those things were so glossy and delicate, that while pretty, had to be protected. Now, glass is going to be more durable than the 3GS for instance, but it's still nothing compared to the EVO's matte back.
In fact, the only thing on my EVO is a invisishield on the screen. That's it. The phone goes in my pocket, in the car's cup holder, and on my desk, and there's not a single scratch to it. This would never have been possible with an iPhone, and it never will be.
Once again, I appreciate the artistic flare Apple devices show in their mobile products. I'm a graphic designer, and sometimes their stuff is nothing short of science fiction looking. However, these products are meant to be used, and if I never see the beautiful body of the iPhone because it's in a plane rubbery case all the time anyway.. what's the point exactly?
I guess I just see things differently after having had these phones for two years. The magic wears off and you see what you really bought; a phone that gets damaged all too easily, with lacking features, a restricted OS and market, an incomplete browser, and a phone plan with horrible restrictions and rules that can make you go broke rather easily.
