Root Root + OverclockWidget = Insane Battery Life 40+ Hours

I have my max speed set at 998000 and my Update Interval set at 120...is that ok...or what do you think I should set it at?

If those settings are working for you - if you're gaining significant battery life - I'd say they're the ones you need. If not, try lowering both.

Everyone is going to get different results because we're all doing different things with our phones. But based on everything I've seen, I strongly believe that anyone can get much better battery life using this widget if he's willing to be patient and try different settings.

I must say that my battery life is no different from stock settings. I have made sure that all of the OC settings are correct and my battery life is still the same as it's been from day 1 (which isn't bad at all, but not like the claims in this thread). I use my phone moderately and have performed the same tasks with and without the OC widget activated.

Yeah, I think patience is key. I don't think I will be seeing much difference today because I honestly can't stop touching the damn thing (and yes, I know I will go blind because of this).

A claim is what a commercial tells you.

This is real world tested by atleast 20 people now in this thread to be working.

hey guys..

this thread was my hope on battery life, but somehow it's not working on me.

i used to have about 30% drain from full overnight charge, with minimal usage of the phone in 2~3 hours. so i looked around and did root, and installed overclock widget and set it up as specified on the thread....hoping i'll get better (or insane) battery life....but it didn't.

overnight charge, took off charger at 5am, it's now 8:36am, and it's now at 46%.
also, phone is always warm...i donno if you guys have this or not..

is my phone or battery lemon??

what proof does anyone have that OC widget is actually changing anything? when i used it i set the clock for just below stock settings (high and low) and never saw the phone leave stock settings.

Uncheck the box for supress notification.
Everytime you screen on it tells you it has set a new clock rate.

Also earlier in the thread the ADB command is listed to check your CPUinfo while your phone is connected with screen off.

Couple things...

Make sure you've saved the settings at the bottom of the advanced screen for OC Widget. A lot of people are missing this and not getting any results.

Also if your phone is warm/hot chances are something significant is running in the background or a program isn't closing properly as it should and its eating your battery.

I am also using a manual task killer and keeping my processes clean. Keep in mind this thread is not about discussion on task killers. So please do not turn this into a "task killers not needed thread". In my personal experience, it helps.

I continued testing last night, wiped the phone, rooted via toast, wifi on, 4G off, 3G on, GPS on, installed JuicePlotter (it was running, suspect one), installed and configured it the same as everyone else. Fully charged at 11PM, then bed time. I woke up at 7AM to a phone with 20% charge. Previous charges from 9PM to 10AM were possible. I suspect that running juiceplotter all night killed the battery.

So, I again wiped the phone, re-rooted, reinstalled Overclock widget and configured, now the phone is fully charged, 3G on, wifi off, GPS on, 4G off. now to see if it will last until 7PM tonight.

i am still not seeing OC widget change the clock settings to anything other than stock when i have the screen on. this leads me to believe that it does't change the settings when the screen is off, but i am at work and can't check that.

still not a believer that OC widget is actually changing the clock speed on the phone at all.

Ok... I just joined here to try this and show my results after some curiosity to try it.

First I just want to say that... Yes, these configurations are doing something and I am getting more battery life.

I set yesterday at 2 am EST the configuration as showed previously in the image using OC Widget and see the results in the morning.
Battery at 62%, 4G Off, BT Off
My EVO and I woke up in the morning, when I saw the screen I said: "Holy Sh!+" is still at 62%, 3 seconds later I said "Holy Sh!+ the alarm didn't work, I am late to work!" but after using for a couple of minutes the battery suddenly started draining fast the next 3 minutes it lost like 5%, but during my driving to work and using the phone to check a couple of mails and browse the discharge stabilized.
I am not sure yet if the configurations made it with OC Widget made some process to not run while the phone and I were sleeping I still need to confirm this. I have set the alarm again a couple of minutes ago and let the phone sleep to see what happen and the alarm worked, meetings alarm, received calls, got mails. I am still not sure why didn't work this morning. But definitely this configurations are working. Here the images:

I will keep testing this configurations.
One thing for sure is the 4G is taking so much battery, yesterday I run out of battery around 2pm and conected to my PC with the usb cable to charge it. I got like 60% when I head to a meeting and during 1 hr it lost like 30% and I just used a couple of times to check email and some meetings. I know is not the same charging the phone thru usb rather the AC but then turned off the 4G and the discharge stabilized.
I think with this OC Widget configurations and turning off some things when are not needed, we can get more battery.
Thanks for sharing!

I installed the OCW according to Nick's direction and the results are better then i could have possibly immagine! my first couple of days owning the Evo were awful. 2-4 hours MAYBE. then i tried the full discharge/recharge cycles and this got me up to 6 hours on a good day.

and then i tried Nicks suggestion. i've been unplugged since 5:30pm CST last night and i'm only at 42% a 11:30am CST. it's PHENOMENAL!! this is just fantastic! and to all you haters, it's user error. you screwed something up. this WORKS. and it's awesome.

thank you nick!

Honestly I think the real test is how the battery performs during the day under your normal usage. Who cares how much battery drain you get over night when most people charge their phone overnight anyway. All that does is inflate your time off the charger numbers. I followed the steps and right now i'm at 20% battery with 14hours since unplugged. However I was asleep for 8 of those hours so in reality I've gotten 6 hours out of the phone with 20% left. This is actually worse than yesterday where I got 13 hours without Root and OCW. If its working for you then thats great, this is just my experience. Tonight I'm gonna charge the phone all night, then see how long it lasts during the day, when it matters.

Yes I think this is the real test, but since I started yesterday night I am still checking the results. By now I had to charge the EVO again because I was at 15% at 1pm since I made the change at 2am.

I hope with the tonight charge is going to last longer tomorrow during the day.

Question on that Screenshot....for me it only says not charging, but doesn't state how long. Is there a setting im missing?
The app is Battery Status Pro correct?

Proper app is "Battery Indicator"

You ever been somewhere without a charger, like camping? Or maybe you took an 8 hour flight and don't have time to plug in at the airport on your way but you still need to make a call. Or perhaps you don't want to have your whole life revolve around your next charging station. Extended idle battery life has a multitude of advantages.

While I agree the having a smart phone should change your habits on charging, what I don't agree with is having it dictate your next move. OMG I NEED BATTERY NOW OR I'LL WITHER INTO A LITTLE BALL WITHOUT MY EVO! OH NOES!

i have the same issue. it just tells me the time i disconnected. i have to do the math in my head and that hurts!! :p
