Help 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks

I'm not sure if this has been posted already, I already got two annoying issues with my phone, but they're both fixed now.

-Extra HTC widgets get stuck on installing. After downloading they extra HTC widgets, sometimes they will never finish installing and can't cancel the process because the cancel button is grayed out. Some said that clearing the HTC Data would cancel the installation, but this didn't work for me.

-Artwork not being recognized by stock music player. After copying album artwork to your music whether you use iTunes or Windows Media Player, it won't show on your phone. Some said that you could simple download some artwork grabber app from the market and that would make it work, but my songs already had the artwork copied, it was just not recognized by the phone, unless I would open a music player I downloaded from the market, then it would be recognized by the stock music player.

After lots of trying, both issues were fixed after I hard resetted my phone.

Don't you know it's the user? It's your fault that you aren't searching these forums day after day to try and find solutions to the multiple issues this phone has. Call in sick to work, tell the wife your sorry it's your anniversary, tell the kids you'll catch their state tournament or recital next year, all 'cause you have a phone that needs constant babysitting.
And the newest solution/recommendation - get the EVO. Christ, I have no faith in the HTC/Sprint partnership at this point.
lol thats a good one but oh so dam true !

Has anyone else experienced the POP3 email glitch where it will continue to give you a notification sound each time it polls for new email (every 15 minutes for me) if you have unread email in your inbox? I have been experiencing this issue since I updated to Android 2.1.

HTC and Sprint really need to fix this and I bet it is probably one line of code that just shuts notifications off if the same email is present in the inbox. If anyone else has had this problem, please post the circumstances in which it arises or if you have found a possible solution.

I talked to sprint yesterday and they are aware of all these problems. Tech support admitted that they have been getting numerous calls regarding all the issues we are seeing in this thread. They said that htc is working on a fix but we are at the mercy of them right now and there is nothing we can do but hard resets or give you another phone.

In addition to some of the quirks/bugs others have mentioned, I've run into the following...

  • Sometimes I can click a contact (either in the phonebook or my list of favs) and nothing will happen. I click multiple times and nothing happens. Then a minute or two later, two calls are made simultaneously to that person (one active, one in "call waiting" mode).
  • I notice that some apps seem to just randomly load in the background even though I've shut them off. Didn't seem to have this problem before upgrading to 2.1 (and this quirkiness may be a contributing factor to my issue above).

I recently noticed that my Hero was using way too much data. In the past 2 days it has used more than 200MB (info from Sprint's website) when I checked in Spare Parts, Battery History, Network Usage it show that the top Network/Battery user is an app or process called "0". Yes, all it shows is the number 0 and when I click on it I get a force close. I have no clue what this is and I'm wondering if anyone in the forum has seen this and was able to figure out what it is. I did a factory rest to my Hero a couple of hrs ago and decided to install apps one by one, use them and check Spare Parts, hopping that I would find the culprit, well... after installing Spare Parts, Hancent SMS, ASTRo File Manager, Google Sky Map, Houston Traffic, Real Calc Scientific Calculator, The Schwartz , Video Player and Yelp the app/process "0" showed up again. I uninstalled Yelp since it was the last app I installed, rebooted the phone twice but the "0" app/process is still using battery and data.

Any help would be appreciated.
I also noticed this but haven't been able to figure out what it is exactly, the only apps that I have in common with you are Handcent and Google Sky Maps (and of course spare parts) but I think it is something with the firmware and not an app.

I too see "0". I have noticed increase network traffic but does not seem to affect battery usage because I have been getting great battery life since the upgrade. I have 50% right now. I usually get to 50% at 5pm. Now its past 12am. Wow on battery life but am wondering what is up with the network usage.

i am on my 3rd phone, still having issues on my calls everythign else seems ok. I either go to answer the phone and its connected but dead silence. or i place a call and it rings twice and then stays connected but again dead silence or it will let me connect on teh call then after a bit it goes silent again but still connected,I need a working phone this is crazy.. I have had it take 20 or more just to get a call to go threw. i have to keep trying and trying... At this point i am not even putting any apps back on figure its not worth my time..
i am so frustraited.. We have 3 heros and the only one F ing up is mine the one i updated,,, I guess next time i wont upgrade which i think sucks.. but i need a working phone.
And with all these refurbished phones they keep giving us at this point i think they are just rotating then from person to person after a factory reset but not fixing the issues

A couple of other 'quirks' I noticed (just odd things):

There are people in my contacts I never added. I'm assuming the phone pulled their info from my Facebook, because I did not add them myself.

My Facebook now says "install Facebook for you Incredible" at the bottom... huh?

I can't set a lockscreen wallpaper, out the the phone wallpaper folder, from the homescreen. What I mean is if you bring up the menu on the homescreen and select 'set wallpaper', I can't set a lockscreen image from the HTC wallpapers folder.

I know there are more, just can't think of them at the moment.

issues since update,
I have major lag when i receive a call or im trying to make a call. The phone will just freeze and lag for several seconds especially when im receiving the call. Pressing the END button doesnt work all the time to end a call and many times the phone ends up calling someone else for whatever reason im like WTF. Seems like when placing or receiving calls just hogs all the available memory and chip power. Also I get lag when the phone screen is locked and I receive a call and me dragging the screen down or hitting the home button doesnt do nothing so I end up missing the call.
The other minor issues i can live with but just the whole answering and making calls crap is ridiculous

I've noticed that my hero now has problems syncing with Exchange and Gmail with 2.1. When I archive or file e-mails in either Gmail our Outlook the changes don't sync to the phone, so the emails are still sitting in the inbox. This only happens with random messages, not all of them.

Also, seemingly randomly, long presses on a hyperlink in the browser will sometimes not offer the "Open in new window" option. Even on the same page with the same type of link; some will have the option to open in new window, some will not.

Same deal with me on lag: getting or making a phone call is a pain in the ass. I'll give it another month for HTC to fix it before I root it.

About once or twice a day my net connection will not serve up any data, unchecking mobile networks and rechecking mobile networks gets it going again. This happened in 2.1 (X.5 and X.6) and also happening on 2.1 (x.5 rooted). Did not ever happen with 1.5.

Zep--

Zep, I'm having the exact same problem. Any word on how to fix it without manually reconnecting?

My girlfriends hero is a POS after the update. 2 times tonight she tried to call me. twice, i picked up, started a conversation with her, then got a call waiting from her about 5 seconds into the conversation. On her end it rang, i picked up and she heard me say hello, then it went back to ringing again. what's up with that? She called me back right after that and this time, i picked up and we talked for almost 10 seconds before it happened again!
This happens to her once every few days, but never twice in a row. Anyone else have this issue?

edit: Forgot to mention, that's not her only problem, there are numerous other ones to go anlong with that...

A couple more things since I last posted:

If I turn 'auto focus' off in my camera settings, the camera will crash after each picture I take.

My alarm has not been functioning properly since I updated, but for the first time, the alarm went off yesterday and would not shut off. Finally had to force shutdown on the phone and reboot.

Why does it not allow you to sync contacts to facebook anymore?? Even worse, is that when I synced with my facebook profile, it added all my facebook contacts to my phone! So now if I try dialing "Mom" I have to wade through any contacts who have an M or an O in their names.....

Another super annoying thing, only about 4 of my downloaded apps from the market actually showed up when I went back to redownload them. Everything else I had to search for and find again....not the biggest problem, but still annoying. Same goes for not saving my bookmarks......

Probably the MOST annoying thing is that all my ringtones I downloaded are now gone. They are still on the phone's card, in the downloads folder, but I can't find them anywhere or open them with the music player on the phone... Does anyone know how I can get them back without having to download them all over again??

wish I had never updated......what little benefits there were to the update aren't worth all the annoyances

I'm willing to bet that if you put them where they were supposed to be in the first place they would work just fine

They belong in the audio directory

in the audio directory there should also be directories named
alarms
notifications
ringtones

Thanks, except there wasn't a ringtone folder, so I created one and dumped them all in there. Still unable to find them on the phone....
