Best Buy installed Advanced Task Killer before letting me leave

OK, thanks for the clarification :) I don't use a task killer so thought that running services were active apps. So what dictate an app as a running service versus an active app? I'm thinking they are widgets you use on your homescreen?

I was just messing around with Astor and under tools it has a Process manager that shows Apps, Services and Processes:eek: I'm not 100% on the differences as I'm not really up on Android OS but on a PC a service actually runs as part of the OS. But on this phone most of them look like apps launch services to do all those things they do in the back ground. Most apps have a option to not do auto updates and that would probably get rid of a lot of them. But like I said I'm no expert. I'm just learning this thing and about Android. in short I'm a noob. A geeky noob though that likes to learn new stuff and I think I'll be digging into the Android OS just for the learning experience. So maybe next year I'll have an answer for you:D until then there are other with far more knowledge than me that's for sure.

PS I don't use a task killer either but I find that some of them have lots of good info on the apps that I find interesting. System panel is excellent for getting info on apps and how much CPU they use and if they are active or idle.

When I got mine from BB, they tried to do the same thing. Except my BB employee was extremely arrogant.

The Tech activated the phone, (Against my wishes. I wanted to do it myself, but he said it was store policy). He then started setting it up. He ran the OTA, which I also asked him not to do since I wanted to root the device without having to flash back to shipped x.1. I really started loosing my patients at that point since I also needed to be somewhere(The main reason I wanted to keep that phone deactivated so I could use my old one). I then see him opening the market application. I asked what he was doing. He told me he was installing ATK. I told him that i REALLY don't want that on there, and I was late for an appointment. He again told me, that It's store policy. I then told him, that I wanted the phone now, so I could leave. He refused to give me the phone, saying that He cannot let me leave the store with the phone unless it has been "Provisioned". At this point I was so aggravated that I just grabbed the phone from his hand, grabbed the bag with box and receipt in it, and left.

I am blown away on how some running ATK can have the 180 degree opposite effect of others running it. The RS girl put it on mine swearing it would help with the battery lasting longer. I took it off to see how the battery might fair without it and it is way better without. Others swear it is way better with... it is all making my head hurt.

I am not saying the battery lasts longer. My phone just runs better I believe.

Sorry, I was not really talking specific to your situation, my bad. There are a few on the previous page and elsewhere that have claimed their battery life went from like 4 hours to 12 by running ATK. I had the exact opposite happen, I got like 16 hours yesterday without running it. It was dead after about 6 when I was using it.

Wow, when I got mine I was able to get me and my phone out the door before the phone finished the first start up

Zero of this makes sense. I would be livid.

If task killers are so bad why is one going to built into and included in the new Android 2.2 (Froyo) release?
...well you can already kill running services on your phone from the application settings...

Well it's not like task killers are all bad. It's good to have for apps that don't 'exit' when you press back...if the app is in loading mode for a continuous time.

Also, I don't remember a task killer was included in Froyo...when Google made the Froyo announcement, they made no mention of that. I'd like source please.
