OK, thanks for the clarification I don't use a task killer so thought that running services were active apps. So what dictate an app as a running service versus an active app? I'm thinking they are widgets you use on your homescreen?
I was just messing around with Astor and under tools it has a Process manager that shows Apps, Services and Processes I'm not 100% on the differences as I'm not really up on Android OS but on a PC a service actually runs as part of the OS. But on this phone most of them look like apps launch services to do all those things they do in the back ground. Most apps have a option to not do auto updates and that would probably get rid of a lot of them. But like I said I'm no expert. I'm just learning this thing and about Android. in short I'm a noob. A geeky noob though that likes to learn new stuff and I think I'll be digging into the Android OS just for the learning experience. So maybe next year I'll have an answer for you until then there are other with far more knowledge than me that's for sure.
PS I don't use a task killer either but I find that some of them have lots of good info on the apps that I find interesting. System panel is excellent for getting info on apps and how much CPU they use and if they are active or idle.
