Help Over 5 phones checked from various locations have grounding issue!!!

I have the same problem on my Incredible. I just keep a metal beverage tray next to me on the couch and set it down on that. I even use one of those non-slip rubber mats on top of the tray and it still works.

I don't have the problem in my car mount but others have reported that they do. If you take a bit of aluminum foil and stick it on the place in the dock where your EVO rests it's supposed to fix the problem. All kludges, but the problem really isn't that annoying.

Mine tracks perfectly top to bottom. I do have an invisishield installed also.

are you testing this on all surfaces or just while your holding it?

This is pretty common issue between the Dinc and Evo. As far as the car mount goes, if it does not work while in the mount all you have to do is hook your car charger up to it and that "grounds" it and your touchscreen will work as it should.

My rational side says this isn't a big deal, that I will use it mostly while holding it anyway.

My OCD side screams "IT'S BROKEN!"

Same here. Downloaded the multitouch visualizer app and tested it both on a flat hard surface as well as a soft bed using just my thumb and index finger.

Can u post a YouTube video of your tracking on a bed? I have yet to see anyone post a video of the EVO tracking on a bed with thumb and index finger. Im a bit of a doubting Thomas....esp after using 5 faulty devices

On the bed mine is the same, the finger near the top seems to go wacko sometimes, but anywhere else it's fine.

on bed no tracking on top with 2 fingers

in hand is fine

These types of responsiveness issues are present in all capacitive touch screen devices due to grounding. Just hold the phone in your hand like it was designed and you should be fine. Regardless of what the multi-touch app shows. How does it function in real world use?

Have u tried it without the case? What type of case are u using?

I did do it without the case first and same result. I then put on the case and took my other evo and filmed it. I forgot to film it without the case, but I could if there are still doubters out there.
Oh as for the case i am using the case that Sprint is selling in their stores. the White hard carbon looking/tampon looking case. lol I have a review of it somewhere in the Reviews section.

doesn't happen when using both thumbs...just thumb and index....idk maybe there's something wrong with my fingers but I saw two other people try this and they had the same issues. Remember to do this with the power unplugged too btw. For some odd reason the power cable corrects the issue somewhat.

Could it be the app? It looks as if it is registering fine. It detects and follows your finger....

I can confirm that when the EVO is sitting on my couch and I'm not touching it that the screen won't register my finger on the top half at all, and occasionally not on the bottom half as well.

How can it register your finger if you are not touching it????

Just tested this as well and no issues here, tried this holding the device and laying it on a flat surface and it tracks perfect.

I definitely have the issue. Almost exactly as in the video. At least this one you can easily show the Sprint rep in the store.

If you cant pull down the notification bar while your phone is laying down, try plugging it in and charging it. When my phone is laying on a surface, I cant pull the notification bar down and the screen is finicky. While its charging, everything works perfectly, weird.

It's a grounding issue. When its plugged in its grounded so it works fine.

I just tried mine on its back in its HTC silicone case and the top curtain comes down both ways plugged or unplugged. No problems here to report.
