Would you trade Eris for Moto Droid?

Beauty gets boring after awhile :)

my dad said something to my brother today about his girl chasing haha"Pretty is fun until you realize that's all there is to her..."

apply that here...The eris is a very sexy phone but to be honest that's all she has going for her...The droid may not be the prettiest but she(then again it is a masculine looking phone...) has a lot more to offer :)

I wonder why people compare the Eris to the Droid. There are even published reviews doing that, although I suppose in those cases a comparison seems needed as a sort of first exposure to the two devices.

They are two different devices marketed to different needs and for different price ranges, in most cases I (although we do see promotions wherein the Droid can be had for pretty close to the same price as the Eris.. lots of fluctuations with those promos).

It gets mentioned a lot, in forums, about the folly of attempting to debate the relative merits of, say the iPhone as compared to the Incredible or the Eris. Doing that sort of thing can be recreational, but in the end those different devices are.. well, different, ;) and the Droid and Eris are vastly different, in design, function and purpose.

I'm not comparing the Droid to the Eris. Well, in a way I am I guess, but not in the sense that I am thinking the Eris is really a comparable phone. I am comparing their differences, knowing full well they are different phones. The Eris is a sleek and beautiful, yet underpowered device. Whereas the droid is a bulky, ugly, tank of a phone that is much more powerful. Its matter of trying to decide which is more important I guess: looks or power.

Its a testament to HTC's design team that I'm so torn over the choice. If the Eris were as ugly as the droid it would be no contest. I am ONLY stuck on Eris because of its physical beauty...

I felt that way about my silver and black, with chrome trim, Pearl as compared to the clunky looking 7290 back then. ;)

Yuck..

Interesting statements, coming from a model... :)

I was looking at tech specs... the Droid has a 550 MHz processor. The Eris is 528 MHz. What accounts for the difference in speed? Is the A8 processor just better designed? Is it because the Droid only has 3 home screens while the Eris has 7?
The moto droid is worlds faster on graphics because it has a separate GPU. For people that say that the moto Droid is soooo behind on tech, they need to look at that Eris doing all it's computing on one underpowered microprocessor and rethink their stand.

As far as look of the UI? That's the first thing to go with a home replacement app! HTC is laggy on their Sense interface!

I did a litlte chuckle :)
I just thought about their convo when i read the thread last night

But frisco, i think a lot of ppl compare the Eris and the droid for a few reasons.
The biggest reason since both of their launches was the fact they were the first 2 devices on Verizon being android so of course i think that warranted a lot of replies.

I don't really see the Eris and Droid as two different devices really. Maybe a blackberry and a droid or eris or a palm pre and a droid and eris.

They both perform the same exact overall functions and have access to the same apps(for the most part) and they run the same software(well did). So i don't really see them as that different from each other aside from the Eris was a laggy, sexy looking device and the droid was extremely ugly and huge :) It just took me a few seconds to do what i did on the droid faster lol

But I don't mean to turn this into an eris and droid battle :)

Well, we're comparing two Android-based units, that similarity is all we have between the

motorola-droid.jpg

and the

htc-droid-eris-verizon-wireless.jpg

The differences in design are vast. The similarities in operating system structure are more of a framework where they depart from one another at many important points.

Motorola and HTC.. quite different. Thus HTC's Incredible as compared to the Droid. Now there's a comparative model. ;)

i have a question. if you are on contract with verizon for the eris for two years but you buy a droid online can you just have them activate it for you even though you are on the eris contract? if i can find the price cheap enough i might just buy a droid. especially with the second version coming, that should drop the price

Verizon doesn't care what phone you use.

Yes, in fact the gal at Verizon customer service told me just last night that I might consider eBay or Craig's List for a Droid and use it on my existing plan since they are suddenly out of stock on CPO Droids. :(

I just got myself a milestone( which is pretty much the same thing as droid)
and i love it so much as i do like playing games on it.

many of the higher end android games that have lots of graphic usually used droid(milestone) as the standard,
also because of the keyboard( put the game gripper on it, you will love it even more,
Game Gripper puts your Droid's D-pad where it belongs (video) -- Engadget)
droid/milestone is kind of the best gaming android phone right now

Hey everyone, I really appreciate the thoughts and suggestions in this thread. The Eris community has been great in my short time here. However... I picked up a Droid tonight. Ended up getting it for $99 from Best Buy by adding a new line to my family plan. Will call Verizon to cancel the line with my Eris and return it. Since that line started as a regular phone, the cancellation is only $145 (been like 6 months). Those two items combined are still less than the cost of the CPO Droid, AND I know for a fact its brand spankin new.

The Eris is a gorgeous device but I think for my personality it wouldnt work over the long term. I would always be wishing I had gone with the more powerful, if slightly less attractive, option.

Peace out!

Wait, you only paid $145 to early terminate your Eris? My Aunt wants to return her Eris for the Incredible because it has a bigger screen and it is easier to read, but she's worried about the early termination fee.

if im not mistaken the early termination fee is 350 so either subtract 5 dollars for each month she completed will having the eris(or maybe its 10 dollars...can't remember)

but i am a bit curious as to how his etf was only 145. Mine was more than 250 cant remember exactly
