Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

Still want to know why mine has upgraded to the Greece/Ireland version... I have noticed that in Set Locale in Settings I have English (United Kingdom) and English (Ireland) showing. Don't know why both are showing.

Might try emailing HTC to ask... they might be getting sick on my emails though.
Go ahead, I'm wondering why I don't get a Nordic version when I should. :D

Get it from http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.93-2.73.405.5_release7sd65upagwzkrpms.zip, extract the file recovery.img from it and flash that using Recovery Flasher (or is the original name Flashrec? It's one or the other.)
Or if you made a backup of the original bootloader when installing the custom one, you can use that one. :)

Thanking you very much :) i got it to work.

I also got this back from HTC

Thank you for contacting us. About the problem that you have mentioned t us, I can gladly help you wit that: HTC will soon be releasing the Android

Email sent - will update when I get a reply...

Hello Dan Yes the update is still due for June. At the moment this could be normal as the update roles out, after the full update if you still see a difference in Locale the email us back so we can investigate this further. Thanks for contacting HTC. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Best Wishes Phil C HTC

Didn't actually answer my question about the locale, but did confirm that the full upgrade is due THIS MONTH. Only a few more days to wait then... two weeks and we'll be into July.

Daniel.

PS - why do people who don't know me abbreviate my name when I always sign my name in full ??!!

It's posted on the UK support site, so I think it goes without saying that 2.73.405.93 will apply unless your device is one of the other two localised versions.

Are you saying that I should download and install this? I'm on Orange and I have build number 2.73.61.66. If I do have to download and install this update, should I backup stuff like apps etc.? My music and pictures are all backed up to my PC and stuff like contacts etc. is backed up to Lookout.

Only if your phone offers it you (after setting the phone time in the future). If not, I don't think it's a good idea, even though we now have an exact URL for it.

No, no need to back anything up. It only updates the bootloader (or "recovery", as some call it) image, few of the applications, and installs new OTA certificates.

Brilliant. Thanks. I'll try the date change thing. :)

Hi guys

I have am on orange as well, didn't bother updating to ROM 2.73.61.66 and still have 2.73.61.5

I have been in contact with HTC and they have said

"Hi, All Heros will receive the update. For the record, Devices that have been tampered with, Hacked or Rooted are experiencing issues with the update. The bottom line is I cannot give you a date that you will receive the update. As you can imagine there are a lot of HTC Heros waiting for the updates and there are implications for such a load/demand on the HTC Server. Orange may however be able to provide you with more information. Thank you for your email. With good wishes, Sam B HTC"

For the record they do seem to be very quick at replying.

I have tried the date thing far too often, and each time nothing. Will keep trying!

Just spoken to 3 they have no clue about this update!!

I emailed Three yesterday.

They just rang me now and said that they have received the update from HTC and are just testing it with compatibility (3 branding etc) and will be releasing it over the air soon. (they did not give a date), they said keep an eye on the three website or you may get a text from 3 once available.
:)
