Help Radio issues - no data connections/no service

I have recently been experiencing serious issues with the signal quality on my N1. I first noticed it when I tried to send a text message to be instantly greeted with the 'Message Not Sent' notification.

I tried a few times but then realised that I had no data connection (No E/G/3G/H icon next to the bars) I did, however, have full bars.

This has happened a few times now and once it loses the data connection icon it looks like it cannot connect back. The APN settings never change (o2) and nothing else changes. The only solution is to reboot the phone.

Following this after a few times I totally lost all service over the weekend and the only way to get it back was to reboot the phone again. This kept happening and my phone currently has no data connection but a full signal (bars all full but no idea what connection type)

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong?
I'm on CyanogenMOD 5.0.6-N1 Build EPE54B Not sure what radio ver.

yea happens to me all the time. Well i say all the time but it has gone down considerably the longer ive had my phone! ive had two versions the t mobile and the at&t currently. They both have suffered from this same problem. My current phone started doing it 2 times a day but then went to once a day now it does it probably once every 2-3 days and yes reboot only thing that fixes it! idk why but just something that happens with phone i guess! Last thing ill add is that i can receive texts i just cant reply back...oh well sorry was no help!

I'm having a similar problem with my N1, not with the data connection but with the phone connection.

When I first got my N1, radio reception was pretty good everywhere. I'd drop maybe a bar or two at home, and the data connection would always go to Edge at home, but by and large everything worked fine. However, over the last few weeks, my radio reception is getting progressively worse. Now, I'm lucky to get a single bar at home, and frequently I'll lose the ability to make calls entirely. When I do get a signal, the single strength bounces like a yoyo: 3G, no bars; 3G, 1 bar; Edge, 3 bars; Edge, 1 bar; 3G, 2 bars; Edge, no bars; no signal at all.

I know there've been lots of posts about problems with N1 signal strength, particularly with 3G, but I haven't seen any other reports of a progressing problem with signal strength. Is anyone else seeing their N1 getting steadily worse?

I couldn't send/receive MMS until about a week ago, when it strangely just started working. I've had the phone since early January, and tried different APNs but to no use. Randomly started working last week.

I've also started having the signal drop out, and need to reboot the phone. Happened 2 or 3 times in the past week. Never before.

Bizarre. Only thing I've changed was to do a factory reset to sort out the googlemail.com/gmail.com issue on my marketplace. That must be the culprit somehow.

All,

I have had very similar issues with my N1 and I have said this in a few other threads, but I was able to resolve my issue by going over to T-Mo corporate store (NOT and authorized dealer) and having them give me a new SIM card.

Once it was re-provisioned with the new SIM card, all has been working well. Better than before.

Hope this helps you guys!

Yeah, I've seen the comments in other threads about getting a new SIM, but I'm not sure that'll help me. See, it is a new SIM. I signed up with T-Mobile when I got the N1, so the SIM is as new as the phone.

Still, if they'll swap it out for free, it might be worth a shot. My phone is pretty much worthless anywhere near my home now.

Strange. However, worth a shot at least.

I am not sure what the deal is, but I have talked with T-Mobile employees (corporate, not retail) that have had issues (new lines with N1 and existing lines with new N1) and new SIM cards helped most, not all, but still worth a shot.

I get exactly the same thing with mine on o2 but mine's running stock 2.2! Very frustrating and nothing seems to cause it or for that matter cure it either!

Been happening a lot lately, it's really dissapointing because I cannot pin point it.
I have the logcat app on my phone so I checked that the other day but it doesn't say there's any issues with the data connection or anything to that affect.

I'm going to flash it over the weekend, possibly to 2.2 and see if that makes any difference. Will probably settle with the latest CyanogenMOD as I cannot stand stock ROM :p

Failing that I'll just wait till Thursday next week and test it in my brand new iPhone 4 ;)

I'm afraid I suffer from the same issue (o2 UK).

I sent it back to HTC a couple of months ago and got a new aerial thing put in but it doesn't seem to have changed much.

I've been considering changing to Vodafone as I thought it was an o2 issue...maybe its not. A lot of people in my work with the iphone 3G's don't seem to have the same problem as me.

It also takes me considerable time to connect to a line when I am ringing someone, to the point where I have to look at my phone to see if I actually pressed "Call". Similar signal issues? Maybe!

Very disappointed in the N1

I don't think its the N1 thats at fault as appears Desire owners are having problems too. I think its something to do with O2's servers, they went down on Monday and since they were back up and running the best connection I can get is Edge, not seen 3g since then!

Don't the Desire and Nexus use the same Radio?

I've just updated to CyanogenMOD 5.0.8 and so far have not had this issue since.
I have only had it on for about a week so far but haven't had any issues at all really. I don't have my MMS APN for o2 added (which is annoying) but apart from that I seem to get a solid data connection all the time.

If I have any issues I'll let you guys know but to be honest it may be that the software is at fault here and something just needed to be rectified.
Is anyone experiencing this on a stock ROM?

I have N1 bought straight from google, using an o2 UK sim. For 3 months at work, I would get a full 3G connection with all bars present. However, in the last couple of weeks, all I get is Edge. I tried my sim in someone else's n1 and they get 3g fine. At first I assumed it is a fault with my phone, but it's weird because I get 3G fine in other areas where I normally would get a 3g connection.

Any ideas? I would try send it for repair, however I've rooted and unlocked the bootloader.
