Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

I can confirm this. Mine took ages, more than 15 minutes. After waiting for 15 min I finally left it, believing the update had failed, and did something else for about half an hour. When I got back it had rebooted and was asking for the pin.

I tried again, left it an hour, still had image of phone and triangle with exclamation mark in it...

I am just wondering if it's because I have my ROM up to date for TMobile?

I have just spoken to HTC (Denmark) about the new ROM Upgrade that came up today on the Danish (Nordic) site. I asked them whether it was necessary to install it and the answer was no.

First the lady didn't even know there was a ROM upgrade available, she had to go and check and then she told me not to download it.

I asked her about the 2.1 upgrade and if she knew when we would receive it and she told me "in a few days time" and that they are about to roll it out.

Hi,

Until recently, I had my phone using a Villain ROM, but last night I restored a stock ROM (as downloaded from HTC website).

After doing the restore, it asked me if I wanted to download an update, which I presume was the pre-2.1 update. I said no to it, as I hadn't yet set up my wifi, and assumed there was somewhere I can go on the phone to make it check for the update again.

Now I've setup the wifi and good and ready to download the update, I can't figure out how to get the update!

Is there some way of forcing it to check for a new update? I noticed in the Villain ROM that there was various "check for updates" options, but there doesn't seem to be any in Android 1.5.

How do I get the update? What triggers my phone to check for them?

Do I have to wait for it to do a scheduled check? If so, I just know it's gonna ask me in the middle of the night...

You can't actually install 2.73.405.5 on your phone as that is the vanilla version. Yours is the most updated orange one, and I have had it in writing from them that all versions will be updated, not just the 405's. We now just have to wait for orange to hurry up and push it out!

Thanx, I did try to install 2.73.405.5- says not applicable to my device. I am on Orange UK ROM 2.73.61.66. I guess we will have to for Orange to push the new update now. it is so frustrating, my main grudge is lack of information provided by both HTC and Orange.

I had this and found the solution within the forum of the T-Mobile UK web site.

Flash your G2/Hero from the latest version for T-Mobile from the HTC UK support web site. Do this even if you are on that version already. After flashing and the phone is booting up it will grab the update and install just fine. When it's worked your build number will be 2.73.110.91

Make sure you have the latest version of HTC Sync too

Hi there.

On the morning most people got their OTA updates i also got one. but i now appear to be on a different build to what everyone else is saying.

2.73.110.91

i'm UK T-Mobile G2 Touch.

can anyone advise me whats up here, or is everyone else as confused as me?

That's the correct build number for the T-Mobile G2/Hero after this update so all is fine for you.

The numbers for the generic Hero are slightly different.
