Help Anyone keeping moment over evo?

i won't drop the moment quite yet, but i can tell you now that this will be my last samsung smartphone ever. my update is in nov, but i'm willing to wait to see what else will be offered in the future. on the lightning rom, i just installed it, and it's very snappy and stable so far. and it comes with littlejth kernal, which fixed the gps issues i was having with joey's lastest kernal. not knocking joey's work.

Would you say that Samsung phones have a problem in general? I noticed on my Instinct that the music player is horrible - cannot read the tags and ignores half the content tagged almost perfect. As much as the question could be Evo vs Moment, one could also say HTC vs Samsung.

i finally got to spend a good amount of time with an evo today. it's really nice, but man, taht thing is huge.

and i can't really say cus i've never personally owned an htc phone. and i know all smart phones have issues, but my two biggest issues with samsung are their hardware integration, and most of all, support for their phones. i mean, i guess the support for the moment hasn't been too bad, but if you look at how they're treating the behold II, that's a sad sight. i never hear of htc doing this to their customers. then again, i'm sure they have their own set of complaints.

and to answer the question for the previous post, i don't think you need root in order to install the lightening rom. you just have to have flash or already have the correct recovery (forcystos 3.1.1)

I have to have a physical keyboard. I have the Hero and the Moment, and no keyboard really hampers the usability for me. So ill be keeping the Moment. Besides, I love this thing! Mine just took a crap(completely dead) lastnight, but in about an hour im going to the store to get another. With the right tweaks, my Moment has been awesome! Until a better phone comes to sprint WITH keyboard, ill stick to the Moment.

After letting the initial onslaught of people dive into the EVO, I'm waiting for people that I know to review them and see what problems or bugs there are first. Also, I just got the Moment last November so I am not getting the $150 upgrade discount until November of this year. By then, there will probably be word on other phones coming out as well.

Now, if I could happen to get the EVO for $199 somehow, I would jump on it and play with it to see if it's what I want, because the setback of no physical keyboard is a big deal to me. Typing on soft keyboards to me is somewhat annoying as well as it does slow me down some.

So for now, I'll hold out for my discount, word on other phones, or if I can get a deal on the EVO.

If that makes me a liar... then so be it.

Has anybody spoken with Sprint and try to get a phone for less than the outright price? The early termination fee (ETF) I think is maxed at $200, and the eligible upgrade price is $199, correct? I think the ETF goes down $10 a month, with $30 being the lowest it goes during the life of the contract. So it seems that it might be better to cancel service and simply restart it. Seems like the most you could get stung for is $390 (assuming you are at least one month into your contract), which is better than the $550 that people are paying outright. I'm sure that Sprint might have ways of blocking that approach, but you would think that they would like to lock the customer in for another 24 months, and still get back some of the ETF cash. I'm sure a lot of you who have had your Moment for like 12 months wouldn't be all that upset to buy out the contract for $80, and enter a new one with the EVO for an additional $200. Has anyone attempted that?

I have an EVO in the house as well as a Moment. The EVO is my wife's as she had dropped her Moment and did not have insurance on her phone(thought we did). She could not stand the Moment because of it's phone issues. Anyway, there is more to the EVO than just 4G. The processor is probably the main thing. Given the same signal on 3G, the EVO whoops the Moment in a side by side internet test. SO it is obvious to me, that our processors in phones nowadays are still limiting the internet experience...and the EVO does closes some of this gap.

Also, for those wanting an EVO with a physical keyboard....people complain that the EVO is too big now...well it would be giganormous if it had a keyboard. You might as well carry a netbook around. To be honest with you, the EVO looks and feels quite svelte compared to the Moment. While the dimensions are .5" thick, that is at it's thickest point as it tapers toward the edges.

I will echo a previous poster's remark. I will have a hard time ever buying a Samsung phone again. I will actually have a hard time buying a Samsung product again. This phone never really worked properly and still doesn't really(GPS issue mainly but also internet "stalls",etc). I don't want to have to modify my phone to make it work properly. The EVO GPS is RIGHT NOW!!! Most everything on the EVO is RIGHT NOW! That is what I like about it. Anyway, not bagging on the Moment. To me, the EVO is monumentally ahead of the Moment.....functionality wise, they are basically the same phones except for the obvious things(4G, hotspot,etc.). It is the performance of the EVO that is what is impressive. They are not in the same league. My Moment is on eBay as is every other small electronic device that I do not use is on there to hopefully help defray the cost of acquiring an EVO. I am tired of getting scolded for absconding with my wife's phone.... Ihave been trying to lead her down the smartphone path thru the whole evolution. She was at the point where she was pleading for a "dumbphone" and back that up with an iTouch. She liked the Moment for everything except the phone. ANyway, blah blah blah. I think the EVO will do it for her. An excellent phone as well as PDA/smartphone.

Is there a "for sale" section somewhere in this forum???

I recently chose the moment over the evo, I like the physical keyboard. It's just easier for me to text and plus for the $100 difference I didn't see enough benefits to justify the cost. Hopefully when my contract is up, we will have 4G coverage and they will make the evo thin enough to have a physical keyboard.

How are you able to get the 150 off after only a year? Is this a perk of premier customers (as my mother is one)? What if your line is not the primary line on a premier customer's contract?

Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk
premier members are eligible every 12 months(primary line only), you can call sprint and change the primary line.

After some soul searching, I've decided to stick with my moment until the price of the EVO comes down and HTC's released their first update (ought to be a month or two from now).
I think they released their first update within 3 days of it hitting the market (bug fix for SD card). And I heard that they have had one other since then (though I dunno the purpose).

I currently have a Moment, but I have an Evo on the way. I was going to keep my Moment, but I had the chance to play with an Evo, and the differences were well worth it for me. I use my phone constantly throughout the day. I own a small consulting firm and my phone is one of the main lines, etc. I also use it for data, txt, etc. quite a bit.

It just kills me when the phone doesn't operate as it should. The Moment would be a decent phone if it worked like it should, but it lags, it locks up, etc. One of my clients just received an Evo and asked me to help him set it up with his Exchange server. I set it up and downloaded some apps for him to play with. The phone is so much smoother than my Moment. It just seems like everything works right. I originally chose the Moment over the Hero because of the physical keyboard, but in all honesty, I can type really good with the Evo's keyboard. I guess the size of the screen really helps.

I'm not hating on my Moment, I just finally realized that there is a phone out there that works much better in it's stock form. My Moment will be going to my wife as she does not use the phone as much as myself, therefore I think it should work better for her since she won't have it connected to Exchange, etc.

exactly my issues, yesterday for no reason it stopped ringing, it would only vibrate, I had to power down and restart.
Call up Sprint. Get them to swap out for a new one.
I did it a few days ago. The second CS rep that I spoke to was very helpful and gave me a confirmation # to get my phone swapped out at a repair center... of course the repair center still had to take a minute to attempt to confirm the issues (Data lockup, GPS drop, GPS lockup, overheating, and terrible bluetooth static) then had a new phone for me the next day (they didn't have any in stock). So far I have had no issues with my new Moment, aside from my general regret for not having it swapped out sooner.;)

App Dragon+Mybackup pro. If you have root, mybackup pro will backup nearly all of your apps AND make them accessible through the android market again. App dragon helps to track down those few apps that mybackup pro will not backup... though after this past use I haven't noticed that it can't backup.

The only real pita that I had with getting the new swap was reimplementing my several e-mail accounts... which I am going to have to do AGAIN with K-9 b/c the stock email app doesn't do sh!t. It worked for the first day and hasn't updated since...

seriously, mybackup pro will save your desktop and nearly all of your settings. You just have to make sure that you load your custom ROMs and whatnot before you load mybackup pro, or else it will not be able to put everything back where it was (b/c you will not have your custom desktop in place).
