SlingPlayer for Android

Hey guys, been doing some more testing with the new slingplayer. This program really optimized for a fast connection. At home I get a full 3G signal and my speedtest download number is over 2mbs. I had no problems streaming slingbox on it last night (or on wifi).

Unfortunately its a different story today at work...I get a poor 3G signal here and when sling starts up it is unwatchable. The software eventually figures out there is not enough bandwidth and subsequently lowers the picture quality so you can watch without it pausing every 2 seconds. Unfortunately it looks like crap after you have been spoiled by the high bandwidth version. These findings shouldnt be surprising, but the difference in quality is huge when viewing on a screen the size of the Evo's.

I'm debating between the Slingbox Pro-HD and the Solo. The Solo is about $100 less, and I'm thinking since I'm in 3G area I won't be able to stream any HD anyway to the Evo. Any other advantages to going with the more expensive HD slingbox?

You get to connect more devices (DVD player, STB, etc) with the PRO-HD, and it adds a coax connection.

You can stream HD channels/DVR content/etc, in HD format, from both the SOLO and PRO-HD, to a PC (app or web browser).

I have been reading reviews on Customer Service and issues with the Slingbox Solo and HD Pro. Has anyone experienced issues with the company or tech support?

I've had my Solo for about 2 years over Fios connection, and DishNetwork...no issues watching via Motorola Q, PC's web browser, nor SlingPlayer for PC. I can't speak about tech support as I've never had to contact them.

saw that last night and dl'd it (now i have to go buy a sling box and sneak it home w/out the old lady noticing).

this could be just the thing i need to knock my work productivity down to zero.

ok; i did it, pro-hd. set up was kind of a pain, but tech support walked me through it and i'm all set up. hd looks great on my vaio's 1600x900 screen and very acceptable on the evo.

took me a few tries to get the slingbox's internal tuner to take a seperate cable input, but i have it working now. i'm in my living room watching a recorded high def show off the dvr on the big tv while i stream a live show from the cable's high def feed over 3g (wi-fi is off, i swear).

looks great; much better than sprint tv. i'm happy that i can watch something while at work/away from home and not mess up what the old lady is watching. this is very cool.

Go with the EVO, size matters for slingplayer :D It looks awesome!!

I watched a couple shows on my Directv DVR and it has the same functionality as the regular remote. I was very surprised how little buffer and lag there was, it works flawlessly over WiFi and excellent over 3G. Ive been rocking the slingplayer since my Palm Treo and also on Windows Mobile, but the interface with this new version blows them all away! Only downside to the software is you cannot do any kinds of hardware tweaks with audio or video streaming, the program sets everything automatically. Also, I didnt see an Audio Only option which i use sometimes at the gym for certain sporting events, but hey, its Version 1.0! I'm sure there will be some improvements along the way.

Definitely looking forward to getting 4G in my area now! (Orange County).
Haha. So many people on this forum are from OC. I'm in Laguna. I went on antennasearch.com and there was a clearwire tower .13 miles from my house. Hope that means I'll be rocking 4G soon
