iPhone 4 reviews are in...

It's a very good looking phone, no doubt about that. I'm just not a fan of the Apple operating systems. One of my friends will be getting one soon...and I'm sure it will be awesome, but he felt the same way when I walked in with my EVO. It's all about personal preference. He prefers Apple, I prefer anything else. To each their own. Both phones have raised the bar, but as always...nothing stays on top forever.

Yet another thing that NOBODY has been able to demonstrate to me.
What lag?
I never have any lag.

I had an iFan try to show me this same thing you speak of and got frustrated when my phone did not lag.
Where do you iFans get this from?

I am no Apple fan, I own the Evo but it sure lags due to the 30fps capping from HTC. Search around these forums and most, if not all will say that the Evo lags when flicking through the home screens and opening apps. Most noticeable lag is when I go from the browser to the bookmarks tab. The phone responds so slowly opening up that bookmark screen. And this is coming from me with the evo rooted with a custom rom.

Don't have an EVO... but I guess that explains why I have no problem.
My nexus never lags in any way/shape/form and the fanboy that pestered me about this 3 weeks ago touted that 'android phones suck because they lag' crap.
When my Nexus did not lag he looked kinda stupid.

But now I have an understanding, thanks.

You nexus is free of the 30fps cap :)

Wish the evo was the same... :(

But that's just another point about iFans making generalizations.
They think it's ALL android phones when one does it because they have 1 device.
So if someone makes a really crappy Android device they are all bad in the eyes of a fanboy.

Apple has made some VERY VERY crappy computers, but we don't say all of them are crap.

guys, who the hell cares? The Iphone is a good phone on a shitty network. PLenty of times my girlfriend has had to use my phone to make a call because her iphone signal was crap. Leave all the people who rather pay the money for a phone that is finally getting to do things that we have been doing since the start. Dont waste your time hating apple, spend your time loving android.

I really agree with the Iphone 4 reviews. I am coming from an Iphone 3G to the EVO, and picked up the EVO on launch day. So no Iphone fanoby here, but no one can deny that the Iphone 4 has a better camera output than the EVO. The still photos and video recordings are breathtaking… After 2 years with Apple and the IPhone 3G, I felt like I needed a break from JBing my phone and everything and am pleased with the EVO.

It makes no sense (excuse the pun) to bash Phone A vs Phone B, unless you are directly benefitting financially from either Apple or Google sales. 99 percent of forum posters aren’t receiving any compensation from the phone wars, besides bragging rights with our friends about who has the best product, which both phones will eventually be outdated in a few months by the next “can’t miss product”. Sorry that’s just the way technology changes.

I’m happy that Apple stepped up their “game” with the Iphone 4, this only means that other companies now have a benchmark to try to surpass to satisfy their current consumer base, which will lead to more innovation and everyone on each phone war side eventually wins.

IMHO (simple comparison)

Iphone 4 Pros-
Better Camera / Video output
More Apps
Longer Battery Life

Evo - Pros
Larger Display / More customization on home screens
4G if in your area

Are you saying the EVO is crappy? lol

A Month ago it was the best smart phone on the market.

On par? Are you high? The picture/video quality of the iPhone puts the Evo to shame. From all the sample pictures/vids I've seen the iPhone comes out on top.

Looks pretty washed out to me....

Personal opinion, sorry.

Dang... Thats is impressive. People. Download the file and view the EXIF data and histogram. ISO 80. Damn. f/2.4 Damn... Focal length 3.85. Wide freaking lens. 1/272 shutter. All in AUTO mode. The software meters better than low-end cameras from Olympus/Panasonic/Kodak. Not up there w/ Canon or Nikon point and shoot.

Damn. This is a cellphone? You can tell the metering is good by looking at the hand on the big sister over the little girl's white shirt against the blue. That area is very critical in throwing off a camera meter. The curve level in Photoshop is good. This is from a 1.75 um sensor. Steve Jobs wasn't bullshitting when he pointed out the 1.75um pixel density of the camera sensor.

Unfortunately, the EVO and Incredible don't give you all that data in their EXIF tags because they want to hide how badly their sensor over-blows the highlights.

Cloudy days can make pictures look like that. This one is mindblowing....

I don't think I can produce something like this with my Evo 4G.

I would so get an iphone

1)If Verizon had it
2)If the screen was bigger

Android is really great to me but i am starting to get annoyed by HTC making pretty devices with bad build quality i.e evo and eris/hero

Personally, I hope Palm/HP comes out with a 4.0 or bigger size Webos device. I really truly love that OS
and i honestly would support Palm/HP if the device was right because that is the best OS around.

But as of now, Android is where i will stay....

The critical points to me in deciding if you want an iPhone or a high-end Android phone:

Do you want a phone that requires less tinkering? Less thought? Less risk you accidentally doing something to harm the software? That the lemming-like masses will recognize instantly as a status symbol? That generally just works (as long as you only want to do what Steve says is okay)? ---> iPhone

Do you like discovering new software? Consider yourself a descent judge of what's reasonably safe to download on your phone and what's not? Maybe even want to develop your own apps? Believe that freedom is more important than absolute safety? Are getting a phone because you want to use it, not because you get a thrill out of whipping it out in front of the guys at the water cooler (not that there's anything wrong with that, but it shouldn't be half the reason you buy the phone)? Believe passionately in open source?---> high-end Android

My dad pre-ordered a iPhone 4 after years of resisting because he didn't want to pay the $30 a month plan fee. I half-heartedly tried to persuade him to go with Android in the months before, but once he placed the order, I was relieved. My dad loves tech, but he's extremely limited in his computer skills (getting his current phone to connect to his new car through bluetooth was the achievement of the year for him). I was starting to have nightmares about the phone calls I'd get if he got an Android phone (why is my battery already dead? I installed this app I found on brickyourphone.com and now I can't even get the darn thing to turn on!? What's wrong?). I'm praying that Apple doesn't let him get into too much trouble.

Okay, long winded post for short point: the iPhone is best for some people and others prefer one of the many different Android devices. It's all about choice, and a better iPhone just raises the bar so that everyone benefits. What many iPhone folks with their lack of choice don't realize is that since there's no one Android phone, iPhone-Android comparisons will always be difficult. But some of us like our "fragmentation" just fine. That's just what advancement looks like when you've got more than one company working on development.

Totally agree with this post 100%
I recently purchused my dad a itouch with itrip for his birthday and he was able to pick up it very quickly , I gave him a 10min overview of it and he went from there. I've tried a few times to show him my phone since he wants to dump the curve and itouch for a phone/camera/mp3/gps all in one, since he says he doesn't like to cary things but he hasn't really liked the android free reign. So I think I will be getting him an Iphone this year , I could probably get him a Android phone and just set it up in a very user friendly format for him but I just would rather get him the simpler device.

Iphone the smartphone even a dumb person can love

I also see it on par, particularly the still pics. I have seen many and better yet have taken many myself that looks as good or better than the Iphones. I have seen alot of iphone still pics where I am thinking to myself, what is so impressive about that. The thing is, I might have been impressed before my EVO. I remeber thinking what a crappy camera the EVO had after the first two days I had it, was feeling really disappointed. I don't know what happened from day three onward, don't know if setting reset themselves or what, but I have taken alot of picks that are absolutely amazing for a phone and really do look like a 8mp shot. I impress people at work all the time. While I am satisfied with my EVO's video, i wouldn't doubt for a second that the Iphone's is superior.

I have to admit, this is the best iPhone yet...

of course its the best iphone yet. Because its the latest from apple. If it doesnt outperform the previous iphone then its a failure.

But i disagree that the iphone 4 is the best smartphone on the market. All those upgrades to the phone mean nothing if the OS is still handicapped. And that is main reason why i dumped my 3GS for a nexus one.
