Help Most Effective Battery Tweak I've Tried

I've been trying all of the various tweaks posting in this forum and others to eek the most power I can from my Evo. Some work, some don't for long. Someone suggested that it's 3G eating all of the battery power when the Evo is idle. I used the toggle switch for mobile network and cut it off. I don't need my phone constantly online. Just having the ability is enough for me, it's like having a lighter in my pocket, vs. having a torch. I just want calls and the random SMS coming in.

Since doing so my battery life is great. 7+ hours and having used less than 20%.

Only time will tell if this is the norm.

cutting off your mobile connection is a great way to save battery life if you don't need CONSTANT internet access. i'm thinking of doing this because i get poor 3G in my work, and my phone is trying so hard to get a signal, it drains my batter in about 8 hrs with very light use. i'll just turn it on when i need it, then turn it off.

and now, here come the "might as well buy a dumbphone if you're gonna turn off the features/mobile connection" comments......

Still using my Evo with mobile network off. So far so good, it still seems to be working.

I've went from juice plotter stating 16 hrs at 100% battery to it stating 36 hrs at max (and sometime increasing to 37 after a few minutes).

I think this is a great solution especially since I can just hit a toggle switch for any service radios i need. So yes that makes it a dumb phone. Until I hit the switch, then it's rainman.

This is definitely a great tip. Now if they could only make it easier to figure out what was sucking 3G in the first place we wouldn't have to do this. Either way, this does work. Thanks

Looks like the other thread about Motorola-based towers could be the explanation. I must not be around one much, though, as I get great battery life, now.
